USB SNES Controller Compatibility?
I'm planning on getting shovel knight, but I was wondering if my USB SNES gamepad would work. It's a Gtron six-axis, eight key controller. There's not much else to say about it, I just want to know if it's compatible.

While trying to bind my buttons, because I have a six-axis controller, it would recognize up and down as "Axis 0" and left and right as "Axis 1," so I could only bind two directions at a time.

I use Xpadder and a Gamecube controller for most platformers, works great.

Have yet to try Shovel Knight but I don't expect any problems.

Shovel Knight didn't recognize my controller at all until I configured it in Steam Big Picture mode. So I'd say if Steam supports it, you're good.

Yes, the original SNES pad (with USB adapter) is already configured in game and ready to go...enjoy

Mine isn't supported in Big Picture mode.

It's a specially made USB snes controller, it doesn't need an adapter. I was wondering if Gtron brand USB Snes controllers were cconfigured.

Having the same problem with the USB controller, I thought it was worth a shot to contact Yacht Club Games via Twitter and they replied surprisingly fast:

According to their answer a patch hitting this week will fix the problems, hopefully you're as joyful as I am finally being able to play this lovely game with my favorite controller :) .

Hey all! Version 1.2.2 is live which should address a particular binding problem with the SNES Mayflash adapter.

Let me know if you're still encountering any issues!

Sounds like Bimon Selmont's issue is that the game doesn't support binding one key to multiple functions? (Can't bind Axis 0 to both Up & down and Axis 1 to both Left & Right.)

Nope, that's not the problem, that was just something I said when Yin told me to configure the controller in Big Picture mode. I tried to bind the up button to up, but it recognized both up and down as Axis 1 and wouldn't let me bind them separately.

What I was wondering is if my USB SNES controller was compatible with the game. Not an adapter, just a SNES controller with a USB cord instead of a normal SNES cord, but since the one I had broke anyway and I'll be getting a new one soon, this post is irrelevant.

That all makes sense! Hope your replacement device serves you well on this game and all games beyond!

One thing I've noticed while binding devices through Big Picture: A lot of drivers, even for NES and SNES devices, tend to treat a controller's dpad as a "joystick". Which is likely what you were experiencing. In these cases, you'd have to skip over the individual dpad binding options and instead bind Left Stick X Axis & Left Stick Y Axis. A bit counter intuitive, I admit!
