1. Plague of shadows
2. Specter of Torment
3. King of Cards
4. Shovel of Hope
I feel like plague is slept on way too hard because can't comprehend movement options and blames the game itself when it's really people aren't good trying to find excuses. When you master Plague Knight's movement, the game because a cluster fudge fast-paced crazy action platformer. hile I did enjoy Torment the most, I honestly feel like PoS is the best, hands down because of the depth it offers and rewards for understanding it.
Too much hate for Plague
Although I need to replay the other 3 since it's been so long.
2. Plague of Shadows - love the high mobility with his double and burst jump, very flexible kit that has a bomb combination or burst jump for every situation, his rechargeable arcana system which give the option to use your sub weapons without fully ever running out of them and the somewhat relatable story (the fear of being not good enough for the person you love thing...not the "blow up everything" thing)
(my real 3 would be showdown since its basically the second closest thing shovel knight will ever get to being in smash after rival of aether)
3. King of Cards - quantity over quality as they say but its not my cup of tea, i would have rather had bigger levels with maybe 1-2 secret exits leading to smaller but more challenging levels which needs more skill with king knights movement then the normal levels then basically playing super mario world with wario land like controls set in the shovel knight universe and the only 2 hierlooms i every really used were the rat bomb to hit something above me over the bubble to cheese over pits...also the card game is boring and the only thing you need is having 3 gem thiefs on hand to mostly win every game and the card grinding is annoying if you need a specific card from someone and they wont play the card for multiple games so you have to replay them a ton of times (the luan card from specter knight took me over 10 tries...and he is by far the weakest player in the entire game since he never uses the graveyard effects)
4. Shovel of Hope - sadly the big horse suffers from being too old, dont get me wrong, on release it was the best s*it there was and gave everyone a nostalgic trip into their childhood, but now his movement seems way too slow ,clunky and boring in comparison to the other 3 which makes it annoying as hell if you have to replay a level cause you missed a note, and lets be real...the phase locket is waaaaaay too broken and takes every challenge (besides instant deaths) out of the game while also making every other relic useless
2. Specter of Torment: A great prequel with an action filled core and tons of prequel lore with a neat main character.
3. Shovel Knight: Even if in the lower list, this isn't bad! It's the main experience and even if the main character is kind of lame the world building and base experience is good. I kind of hate the final boss though due to AI shenanigans.
Shadow Realm: King of Cards - Good design and moveset, but Terrible main character, card minigame is awful and doesn't even have multiplayer like it is asking for, story is an absolutely ice bucket that sours the experience if you try to get into the frustrating, pointed out by the very same story's card game.
I completely agree with the comments above about Plague Knight. I hated the movement at first because it was a bit confusing but if you keep with it though it eventually starts to feel awesome since you can basically fly through stages. Also, I thought Plague Knight had the best story.
Shovel Knight has somewhat basic movement but it feels like a nice throwback to classic NES games. I like those old games so it really appeals to me.
King Knight and Specter Knight's movement kinda feel a bit off to me. I remember Specter's wall climbs being awkward for some reason (not letting go or something when I wanted him to) and I really didn't enjoy Specter's story. King Knight so far has a very silly story and I like that which brings his campaign a bit above Specter's in my opinion.
Overall though I like all the campaigns and think they're really fun despite my minor complaints.
It is a Yugioh joke: If you didn't know what the title meant, it is King of Games. Even if it's more famous for the card game.
If I half understood the joke, but I think I misinterpreted it, I thought you meant that the game seemed so bad that you would put it in another dimension or something.
2. Plague - Fun! Goofy! Unique! Express yourself with your own bomb setups! Overall a good time.
3. King - It feels very easy from start to finish - which isn't bad! I found myself relaxing and having fun from start to (mostly) finish with this one. The card game was also very enjoyable.
4. Shovel - It's ironic that the game is named after Shovel Knight himself and yet I just prefer the other games over him. It's not his fault, he just provided the base game lol
About Shovel Knight: I suppose it is to be expected, personally, and as I already mentioned, it remains for me one of the best, but I think it has the disadvantage that being the first is when the studio had less experience, and the game looks very simple compared to others, where the levels became more creative in comparison, but frankly it does not take away their own merits.
F Shovel of Hope. Specter is awesome.
