The 2.0 update completely overhauls Vertical Velocity from the ground up.
This build refines every system — from player physics and camera behavior to boss encounters, audio, and UI — resulting in tighter controls, smoother flow, and a much more polished experience overall.

• Rebuilt PlayerLauncher with drag thresholds, cooldowns, perfect launches, and velocity caps.

• Added perfect launch particles and SFX.

• Unified collision and death handling through the new GameManager.

• Improved consistency across spikes, bosses, and hazards.

• Implemented as a persistent Singleton.

• Manages death FX, slow-motion, growth/shrink, respawn, and scene resets.

• Added autosave for tutorial scenes and manual save slots in the pause menu.

• R key resets any level for speedrunners.

• Integrated global pitch shift during slow motion.

• CameraController: smooth follow, parallax, screen shake, and focus hints.

• CameraWaypointController: supports cinematic sequences such as boss intros.

• Preliminary CameraBarrier system to limit camera outrun speed.

• Spikes redesigned for clarity and instant kills.

• ThornThrower: rotating flower turret with full FX and attack phases.

• Geysers, Spike Elevators, Wind Tunnels, and Lightning Bolts added as new hazards.

  • LogBoss: cinematic intro, rolling chase, destructible tilemaps, impact FX.

  • LavaBoss (CoreBoss): dynamic lava rise, rumble intro, rock spawning, victory fanfare.

  • CliffsBoss: maze arena with fog timer and snake finale event.

• Complete soundtrack integrated.

• Added SFX for launch, drag, impact, and hazard types.

• Ambient and environmental layers (wind, rumble, lava).

• AudioManager with individual sliders for Master, Music, SFX, and UI.

I’ve been working on a complete re-haul of Vertical Velocity, and I’m excited to share what’s coming in the late October update. This isn’t just a patch—it’s a full refresh of the game with new systems, content, and polish across the board.

• Player Overhaul – The Sun has updated movement polish, improved responsiveness, a new trail effect, and added death animations for better feedback.

• The Moon & Cutscenes – The Moon has been visually reworked, and the opening cutscene has been updated to create a stronger narrative introduction.

• Expanded World – Six new areas have been added, each with 4–5 unique handcrafted levels. These stages include multiple boss mechanics and refined assets to give the world a stronger thematic identity.

• Hazards & Interactions – Lava geysers and other environmental obstacles bring more variety and challenge to the climb.

• Music Revamp – The soundtrack has been refreshed with updated tracks to better fit the mood and momentum of each stage.

• Speedrun Support – The Speed Run Manager has been improved with a more accurate timer, milestone death counters, and milestone callouts.

• Visual and UI Updates – The title screen has been completely redone with new visuals and animations, while in-game presentation has been polished with refined effects, cleaner UI, and stronger atmosphere.

• Movement & Death Effects – Added new motion and impact visuals to give the player’s actions and failures more weight.

• Bug Fixes & Polish – Countless fixes, optimizations, and small touches across every system.

This re-haul is designed to elevate Vertical Velocity into its best form yet: more content, more style, and a smoother, more cohesive experience from start to finish.
