Some simple help for beginners of the game.
I just bought the game today (yes I know it was cheaper a few days ago, but I like to read unbiased reviews).
My questions are rather simple.
1. How much stealth and or pickpocketing is needed to steal in the first location? The game tells you what levels the locks and hacks are, but I can't seem to find any info for stealth or pickpocketing.
2. Does con have a retroactive effect on health points? Basically, in AD&D games increasing con would add HP for every level, while some other games it is based on a single "snapshot" of each level.
3. Is fishing worth doing at the start? (spend half your money to buy a fishing rod or not).
4. Any other tips for spending money, grinding etc that people can think of?
5. is there a manual somewhere or just a wiki page? And is the wiki page up to date for the released product?

1, I never palyed with those skills, but i do know that stealth has no effect on pickpocketing. So your question is more about how much pickpocket u need to pick pockets, or how much stealth u need to avoid detection while u r stealing from a "red" container.

2, Yes con is retroactive.

3, My char can't really fish with 3 dex, but I would not spend half of my money on a rod for sure.

4, There is no reason to grind in this game. You will have no money problems during most of the game. Ofc there are some expensive things later on, but at that point you will have a lot better understanding of the game.

5,There's no manual. Wiki is outdated at some places. If oyu want info I would still check wiki out, and also search on the steam forums. If find no asnwer, just open a topic and ask about it, maybe some1 knows.

I wasn't sure about commenting on the wiki being out of date in some places, it looked that way to me but I am a noob.

Do you really need any dex for a ranged assult rifle gunner in heavy armour or will the fishing quest I have read about just be a nightmare for me.

You dont need any stealth to pickpocket people. It helps to better pickpocket in stealth with ninja looter perk, but coming that close to a person without notice will require ridiciolus amount of stealth skill.
There is no real problem with money at least early on, just sell loot, you can also craft good stuff and sell it, but if you want to spend time to craft, it will cost you alot you will probably balance around "ok" amount of money.
There is fishing quest in junkyard, you also can get some good stuff from fishing ( especially on hard difficulty ). Fishing worth especially if you have high DEX, like 8+. I didnt see any mention that fishing scales with DEX, but with higher dex i almost aways success at catching.

You also will get significant amount of creds after doing outpost quest, tho loot is mostly random, i got like 700 creds out of it or even more, so you can buy fishing rod after. Also pickpocket will provide you with additional money early on.

Assault rifles require 6-7 str to use ( 7 for more advanced models ), and ofc high perception for aiming in general and perception feats. You dont need dex for AR build.

DEX only affect better success rate in fishing, you still will be able to do just fine. You can also eat eel sandwich for +1 dex.

3. Fishing is only for the fishing quest.
4. You don't need to grind with Oddity XP. When looting, bear in mind you have a weight limit. Traders also only accept a handful of items per type (firearms, melee weapon, belt, grenades, etc.) so looting a variety of types is preferable so you can sell them all.

Fishing is generally fun, RP etc. Also it's possible to fish pretty good stuff ( even oddities ). I once got night goggles worth like 200 charons or smth. I also didnt have NG before so that was a nice catch :)
