Heroes of Valor

Heroes of Valor | FAQ
This FAQ has been copied directly from the official Heroes of Valor Discord[discord.com] server.
What is this game about?
The game is an arcade style 3rd person grand scale battle shooter set in world war 2. It is inspired by games like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Heroes and Brothers in Arms.
The game features infantry and vehicle combat combined with stylized "magical" skills. Use many different types of vehicles such as tanks, planes, AA guns and bikes and pick one of 4 classes: commando, soldier, gunner and engineer (engineer is coming soon) each with a diverse arsenal of weapons and skills.

Take over flags and kill enemies to win the battle in the classic conquest gamemode or play other gamemodes such as rocket capture (king of the hill), bombing run, frontlines, capture the flag and more. Players can fully customize their battle experience by setting ticket count, AI difficulty, maps, modes and more settings will follow in the future!

How can I play?
You can playtest the game by visiting the game's store page on Steam and pressing the green button that says "Request Access" after which you should immediately be granted access to the public playtest.

When will the game be released?
The current release target is somewhere in the summer of 2025 (this year).

What will the game cost?
Hard to say at this point but not that much. Ballpark pricing is around 15 euros. But this is subject to change.

Who are we?
We are Fancy Cat Interactive. A small indie studio consisting of two developers. (me and my brother) We are also working on another game set in a fantasy pirate universe called Saltaria.

Who is publishing the game?
The game is published by Iceberg Interactive. A Dutch publisher that has been in the industry for quite some time and who have released a diverse plethora of games in the past.

Why not free 2 play?
Free 2 play is an approach that involves a lot of risk. Everything would then come down to us being able to sell cosmetic DLC's. As we firmly believe in never adding any pay 2 win to the game it makes it extra difficult to make selling cosmetics only a viable financial strategy. This would mean that we'd have to spend the largest part of our time making cosmetics. While that is certainly fun to work on, we want the game to be more than just a wardrobe simulator.

We'd also have to upfront a lot of costs which we are unable to do as we are only 2 developers with no big bank accounts.
Another important reason is that free games are always riddled with cheaters. If the game is free it becomes laughably easy to just create alt accounts and continue cheating. A paywall is not the ultimate solution of course, but it sure helps.

And last but not least, we simply do not like the free 2 play formula as in our opinion there is a very negative connotation with these types of games and more often than not they end up becoming a milk factory that prioritizes profits over quality game content. Heroes of Valor is a passion project that aims to create a really fun experience. Gameplay will always come first here and with that mindset we firmly believe in a reasonably priced one time purchase that gives excellent bang for buck.

How is this game different from Battlefield Heroes?
Heroes of Valor takes inspiration from Battlefield Heroes in the hopes to bring back some of what was lost when the game was shut down. However, Heroes of Valor also introduces a lot of new and unique things and takes a different approach to how the game plays and feels. The biggest difference is that the game has full BOT and singleplayer support and allows players to completely customize their matches. Because of this, Heroes of Valor is also a lot more chaotic and grander scale in nature.

All classes and skills are also useable and changeable IN-GAME. So, no need to create separate characters or customize your loadout in the main menu. Aside from this, Heroes of Valor will also feature different vehicles, weapons, maps, game-modes and much more. And last, but not least, there will be no pay 2 win whatsoever. Anything you can unlock or buy through DLC's will be PURELY COSMETIC ONLY. This will never change. (Yeah, I know it sounds cliché. But for everyone who remembers Battlefield Heroes, I think we can all agree that this was a major issue.)

Why make this game?
As avid fans of Battlefield Heroes and the Battlefield franchise we were very sad that the game was shut down back in 2015. We've been looking for a replacement game ever since and waited for years. But it never came. In 2023 we had enough of waiting and finally decided to make the game ourselves. So here we are!

We believe there is still an audience for this type of game as Battlefield Heroes had a huge fanbase back in the day and games like Fortnite and Battlebit are some of the more recent successes in this genre that hint at the untapped potential. Our main goal with this game, is to provide a casual fun singleplayer / co-op / pvp Battlefield-like experience that brings back the awesome combination of skill centered hero shooter gameplay and grand scale battles with vehicles in an arcade format.

Will player progress from the beta be available in the final game?
The playtest version of the game uses it's own stats which means stats and progress obtained in the playtest will not carry over to the full game. However, playing in the closed beta / playtest will be rewarded with special cosmetic items.

Will there be a reward for beta testers / playtesters?
Yes, there will be some sort of recognition for closed beta testers. There won't be any weapon advantages for beta players, only cosmetic items.

Will there be dedicated servers?
We have dedicated servers planned but for now we are focussed on making the game as fun and bugfree as possible. Once dedicated servers arrive, they will be provided to the community so that everyone is able to host their own dedicated servers from their own hardware. But we are also in talks with server providers to provide a subscription based solution to host a dedicated server for the game. More info on this will be shared down the line.

the issue with that is, It costs them money to have dedi servers, the current method is here so they don't start spending budget too fast, they have talked about adding them but just not in this stage of the game
Is there any chance that you can play this in a browser (without steam installed)?

Dedicated servers isn't what you're thinking about. It's a program for third party and players to host their own servers. It doesn't cost them anything, beside more time to update it, which they're gonna do anyways.
To make a better example, ever seen those games (like tf2) with a server browser that have those servers that are always up? Those are dedicated servers. DS is usually much better than Listen Server (servers hosted directly from the game) as they take much less resources from the hoster(s), and can usually be also controlled from a webpage. Dedicated servers, with a server browser, is what keep a game alive for nearly forever. Cod 2 is still being played to this day because of this.

tl;dr: No, lol.
