Good atmosphere, but tedious gameplay. Not to mention the almost complete lack of explanation as to the basic gameplay loop, combined with dependence on good RNG to progress through several timed levels, it really feels like the project should've seen more work done before release. Perhaps conceptually, perhaps technically, but the overall feeling left on the player is not as pleasant as it should be. A shame, really, given the studio's past projects.

Edit: Can't even 100% the game because of a bugged achievement. For Shame!

After being a fan of Ice-Pick Lodge for more than a decade, I have to admit that actually playing one of their games turned out to be a disappointment.

Nice game, BUT TALKS TOO MUCH

Knock-knock is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is a 3D rendered (with some 2D cartoony presentation) side-view classic adventure game with a somewhat creepy esoteric plotline. Control a somewhat frayed looking unstable cartoon guy around dark environments puzzling out the creepy things that knock in the dark.

The developers did well establishing the tone for the game, and while the graphics are perhaps simple, they look okay because of the 3D presentation and clean, professional looking artwork. The tone of the game is established effectively through the reasonably quality presentation. The English translation is unfortunately a bit ropey. This game might be a solid "maybe", but it's let down on the technical front for obvious reasons... it's a mobile app. On PC.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.

Bewilderingly, the game doesn't include proper audio controls, you'll need to alt+tab out and adjust the audio using the Windows sound mixer. This is obviously not okay and it's unclear why the developers chose not to include this basic feature.

The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers.

In fact there's zero customisability for this game, no control panel or settings... you have to just cross your fingers and hope your PC will run this mobile app properly. Mobile developers surely are a blight on gaming.

Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $10 USD, on app stores, it's $1. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay TEN TIMES THE PRICE for a cheap mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers.

Because this is a mobile app, is priced to insult and gouge PC gamers, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. If you really do want to play this, by all means play it on your iPhone where the greedy mobile devs are charging just 1/10th the price they're trying to scam PC gamers out of. Just who do they think we are?

Well, in this game, you ARE getting different results, but you might go insane anyway.

I did like the art style, sound design and the core gameplay idea about making it through the night inside an ever changing house. My one big issue and reason for the thumbs down is the randomness. Little if any is explained about the mechanics, which doesn't have to be a bad thing; but to make everything so obscure and then add a dice roll on top seems like a questionable design decision and only leads to frustration and the urge to consult a walkthrough.

I'm not sure why I bothered finishing this game.
I thought it would get good, or start making sense at some point, but it never did.

cool experience, not a fun game.
