The Adversary invades their Homelands but as his campagin has been going on for at least a hundrred years and amassing a major force by the time they could do anything it is too late.
Fables, issue 40.

Earlier than that the exodus is explained in issue five.
"We ran from... something. We dunno".
This issue explain much, indeed :D

"It took an invasion to unite us"

"Beyond the farthest shores of never, The Adversary lived in a remote kingdom" .... "And after he'd conquered his own lands.... he turned his unquenhable appetites in our direction"

I got the issue number wrong as that would be four not five.
Yeah, something united us. We dunno what exactly, but it did.

Yes, The Adversary's identity isn't revealed at that point. The reason for the exodus however which was the point of the topic is however revealed as early as the first storyline in issue four. The reason the invasion occurs is not and isn't revealed until Homelands but the question was why do they leave not the motivations of their attackers.
After issue 40 see also the book written in 1963 https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6839176/1/Urfin-Jus-and-his-Wooden-Soldiers

I wouldn't be entirely sure how canon that is to Fables though. While as far as I'm aware Baum like Lovecraft was open to other writers creating stories set in Oz I don't know if that pertained to the Russian stories. However it wouldn't be required reading for Fables itself. I'm curious as to why you linked to that story As it doesn't have anything to do with the Adversary. The soldiers are carved from the Golden Grove. While the ones in that story come to life from magic powder.

Well, Russian author with surname which can be translated as Wolf (lol) certainly borrowed idea of Oz, and then Willighem borrowed Wolf's idea.

Why because both involve wooden soldiers being brought to life? That would be a coincidence at best as similar concepts appearing in stories is quite common. As your suggestion completly ignores the story of Pinocchio.
