Assault Android Cactus
Any other good twin stick shooters?
I'm trying to compile a list of good twin sticks besides AACactus. I've already added AAC in my wishlist :-)

The most enjoyable I've played so far on Steam is 'Circuit Breakers'. It's similar to the old SNES version of SmashTV just much more difficult. It's good fun and has both a score attack and endless mode.

Anyone else have some recommendations?

Geometry Wars is definitely worth your time, I also liked We Are Doomed. Though they are both more classic style and not really character driven.
AAC is probably my all-time favorite twin stick shooter (it's certainly the one I've spent the most time with!). But after AAC, I'd probably recommend Waves. ^^

Those are just my personal preferences, though. I'm sure other people will have different lists of favorites than me. =)

If you're looking outside of Steam then Super Stardust HD (PS3/4/Vita have various versions) is one of my all time favorites too.

That one looks pretty amazing.
For those who haven't played it CRYPTARK is amazing as well. It's still early Access but basically a complete game. Your mech traverses the corridors of derelict zero-g spaceships on a hunt to destroy the ships mother brain and defense systems all whilst fighting off tons of baddies in the process. Really high quality twin stick.

AAC took over top twin stick shooter spot for me quite awhile ago, too. Aside from AAC, there are some other decent ones on steam (stardust was good also but not steam). Geometry Wars 3 is pretty good (although, I still haven't bought it yet due to AAC lol...). Waves was also pretty good. They both have some programming issues (features in GW3 are a bit messed... and waves has score limitations due to how they did the score system), but they both have good game play. Waves has a bunch of interesting modes as well. I would probably put Waves second on my list after AAC. Polychromatic also looks interesting (it may be like a Waves lite?), however I haven't played it yet... it's just on my list for twin stick shooters I'll check out at some point.
Waves! One of the best twin stick shooters ot there. Has a great scoring system anda sleek art style.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Renegade Ops
Alien Breed 1/2/3
Splatter
Nation Red
Gauntlet
Meltdown
Crimsonland

and of course, ALIEN SWARM!

Yeah, a lot of those are more top down twin stick adventure shooter games than the score based arena twin stick shooter like AAC / GW / Waves, though. However, I did like some of those, too.

Also, Polychromatic did turn out to be like Waves sort of... for those who know Waves / GW, Polychromatic has a similar feel to Waves in the game play, but the enemies feel sort of more like a combination of Waves / GW (more variety than Waves and some of them feel like GW type enemies). I think this has a good shot at being my second most played arena twin stick over some time just because Waves doesn't have a nix version. There aren't as many modes as Waves, though (but then that is something Waves did really well).

Are you planning to publish your list anywhere?

Umm no. Just wanted opinions on which ones are good enough to buy. :-)

Ah, OK
Rive's on my watchlist. It's out in 2016 AFATK. I have a child's minimum eye-candy level (except for puzzle games) which for me (probably unfairly) rules out a lot of the games mentioned here, but Rive looks pretty enough. It's also a (vertical-dimension) platformer, which I like. And hopefully (being made by the same team who did Toki Tori) it will have some puzzle-ness. Although I'm not too sure about that.

I have beta access for Rive, but sadly I haven't been able to play it yet (they're taking the route of supporting my platform after the bulk of development is out of the way). From waht I've seen though, it looks neat.
Mutant Storm! I'm amazed no one else has said it! It's another indie from devs PomPom, and has been out for over a decade! Absolutely one of the stronger twin stick's I've ever played. Mutant Storm is out on Steam, as well as 360. Sadly, Mutant Storm Empire, an amazing successor, is 360 only, as the PC beta never took off. Also, Ion Assault. It's such an atypical shmup, but it's beautiful both in mechanics and visual/audio polish. It's also out on Steam and most consoles, too.
