What to do with the resources
Hello all;
Ok here we go.
First off let me say that this is my first play through of this game, and I am playing on the Hardcore setting. I chose the infiltrator as my character, boy that seems to be a mistake, since so far everything is close quarters combat. In the first game I was able to snipe most anything from extreme to long range and in this, not at all. At least not compared to the long range of me1, ( meaning in excess of 300 meters to outside of radar range). I mean i was able to pick targets and missle turrets off from several range peaks away. I was able to plot my aproach change postion ect. Now? Not so much, so my stealthy sniper dude seems a bit wasted since my only rapid fire weapon in a cheesy pistol with no damage potential.

Anyway yes, yes I know the above rant has nothing to do with the title, I'm getting to it ( no really), thanks for being patient with me. So I have now arrived at the Horrizon mission wich means after I conclude this mission I will be able to collect a few more squad mates, right?
So... Does that mean I get to do more upgrades to the Normandy II? I have already done the Armor, Scanner, Weapons, and Med bay. And it is greyed out whenever I use the research thing in the labs.
So far I have 300,000 in all the resources except zero point energy, of which I am back up to 21,000 since i have upgraded the biotech and medigel stuff. Also I am down to a little over 120,000 platnum since i upgraded some weapons, ( again on the bloody sniper rifle which had better pay off since I have yet to encounter any combat where the bad guys are not in a direct medium to short range line of fire, { arg! sorry just let it go...}).
So what I could really use is some cold hard cash, anyway to convert the resources to cash? I have not even explored that much, i just been using a crap load of porbes and being very thorough on my planet scans. Should I even bother collecting more resources? Will I use any of that Pallinium, since I seem to be able to find boat loads of that and Irridium. But none of the upgrades seem to need large quantities of those, mostly platnum Of which I have a lot of and spent even more of, and Zero point energy.

Anyway thanks for your patients and any advise you may have. Feel free to rant a bit I know I did.

Yes there will be plenty of upgrades to do though not to the Normandy itself. There are plenty or armor, shields and weapons upgrades to research which all costs various amounts of resources (some are pretty expensive).

You'll need to pick up the upgrades during missions (hacking terminals etc and finding them laying around in the world) or buy them with cash from the various vendors in the game (5 on the Citadel, 4 on Illium, 3 on Omega and 2 on Tuchanka) before you can research them in Mordin's Lab.

As for money there's basically just enough cash throughout the game to buy what you need so again you need to pick up everything you can find in the game world and do as many missions as you can to earn that money - hack datapads and safes etc.

Upgrades you purchase from vendors don't need to be researched in the lab.

As for money, you can get infinite amount from the pit fight on Tuchanka.

Actually some do. For example Sub-Machine Gun Damage, Sniper Rifle Damage, Heavy Pistol Damage and Assault Rifle Damage can all be bought from vendors. Once you have collected a certain number of these "upgrades" from buying them and finding them during missions etc. you then research the actual upgrade in Mordin's Lab.

That's far fetched. Researches you actually purchase don't need to be spent resources on. Everything you find or unlock upon collecting certain number of researches is another bag of chips.

Except it's not far fetched (since it's true) and you do need to spend resources on research after you've purchased it from vendors. Just because it's not every research you buy from vendors or what YOU consider to be research doesn't change facts.

Right. But it is. The fact is that the research you purchase for credits don't need to be researched. Unlockable researches are not purchased from vendors. You can get them without buying anything.

Except some do. And yes some unlockable research IS purchased from vendors. Circles - we keep going round in them.

None of them do. No unlockable research is purchased from vendor. They are unlocked from gathering two and three instances of a particular research, and none of the are unlocked solely after purchasing something. And even if they were they are still not purchased, for you have not payed credits for them.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. And though you both went a bit circular you did indeed answer my question. That there is no way to convert the resources into cash, I just have to find the cash or earn it in various missions.

I will most likely hold off on scanning planets for resources and only scan for anomolies that I could land on and look around a bit. Will pick up the resource hunt when I run low on the stuff I have now or find out I need more.

Again Thanks.

With how much resources you have you won't need to scan anything ever again. However, resources you gather carry over to Mass Effect 3 in a form of a war asset. So if you want maximum payback of a hundred points, you might want to continue scanning.
