What did work for me was to completely uninstall PhysX and then go and run ME2. ME2 recognised that I had no PhysX at all on my computer and installed the 'right' version for it to run. I was able to play ME2 fine after that.
(Yes, this does mean if you have any other games that use PhysX -- like ME3 -- if this solution works for you you will need to do this dance every time you switch between the game with the newer PhysX version and ME2.)
and the game runs fine without juggling installations.
That worked great for me. Had to update my PhysX software to 9.13.xxxx so with that and the PhysX-Legacy I don't have to juggle PhysX versions. Much appreciated :)
Thank goodness these forums exist! Besides ME2, I also had to look up how to fix Borderlands...
Anyway, long story short, ME2 was working for me fine in the past. Tried playing it today, and that message popped up. Deleted the PhysX file in the ME2 folder and installed the PhysX (Legacy) file. It's working now. Thanks everyone!
