Mass Effect 2 Has stopped working

So i bought mass effect 2 in the christmas sale, but i have been having a recurring problem.every so often the game will freeze having stoped working (to clarrify i am getting the error message).

first off has anyone else had this problem (they probably have knowing the age of the game)
and secondly do they know how to fix it.

Any help is appreciated

I had this issue after installing the Shadow Broker DLC. The simple fix for me was to play in windowed mode.

My issue is mostly freezing when on mission (occurence is high after starting the game - meaning it freezes about 2 - 5 times in a quite short period of time). Anyway I just press CTRL+ALT+DEL, start the task manager and click back on ME2 or ALT+TAB on it, and, it works again... Those freezing situations appear in first 5 - 10 minutes of playing, then it magically stops. Since I have played this game, only twice the freeze bug resolved in total crash (thanks god for autosave)

what it tends to do is come up with the error message and try to find a solution. if i click on the game while this is happening it closes and by the time i reach task manager it hasnt found a solution and closes the game.

my issue is it wont start up it says i have to download some update that i ready have

my freezing problem was solved after installing MSI afterburner, then with on screen monitoring, it had no single freeze or shutdown whatsoever...however, I do not understand why particulary this thing helps, maybe the on screen monitoring just keeps the process in the same window... Does not matter, just works for me ;)

No problem, maybe you could also try running the game without steam on. I have the feeling it is somehow disturbing it. Should be ok just to run it from the proper directory.

ME2 constantly crashes with the "Mass Effect 2 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly etc etc" on my system too. I had similar problem with Dragon Age: Origins and couldn't finish final battle with Archdemon until I forced it into single-CPU/single-core mode with Task Manager's Affinity setting. No luck with ME2 though - still crashes in single-core as well as in quad-core...

I believe it's some memleak bug in BioWare enemy-AI or physics engine. They should've produced a fix and maybe there is a fix available via EA but not in Steam.
