Liara goes even more gung-ho in ME3 though.
ME3: She's slightly less cold blood killer in ME3 tho, or looks like it in the start at least. (Is happy to save people and so on)

You do get more insight on her, and more 'ME2 closure' on her, if you do the Shadow Broker DLC. Otherwise, she still goes on the story-plot off-screen between ME2 and ME3, but just brings a lot of mercs, many of which die (and Firon dies).
Basically, yes, you're kinda missing something. Its a very optional something, but its certainly a layer to the Mass Effect trilogy that involves Liara, the Shadow Broker, and some other stuff.
