Mass Effect 2 (2010)

Mass Effect 2 (2010)

What is your opinion of Ashley Williams? *SPOILERS*
I'm just curious.

A lot of people dislike her because of her remarks in ME1 about picking humanity and her religion so a lot of people leave her to die on Virmire.

What do you think?

Her endless whining about Shepard still being connected to Cerberus in 3 made me want to jettison her out the airlock given the option to do so.

Same goes for Kiadon why I never used them in any of the games.

I never liked Carth I mean Kaiden either.
How hard is it to spell "Kaidan"? Pretty hard, apparently.

This is what happens when your name is pronounced differently than it's spelled. Because the cast of mass effect clearly says "den" and not "dan" at the end of Kaidan.

Edit: Keep in mind that not everyone plays with captions on, which is the only way you'd ever see the name in normal gameplay.

How it is pronounced: Kaiden
How it is "actually" written: Kaidan

For non-english native speakers this is hard (my native language is portuguese so you can see how hard is this for me). I admit I miswrite his name wrong sometimes because I pronounce it Kaiden and is written Kaidan.

Here is why people find it hard to write.

Even a native speaker could easily have made the same mistake. There's a whole bunch of words in English that aren't pronounced the way they're spelled, and the only way you'd know is if you've heard someone else pronounce it and you remember this is an exception to the usual rules. So yeah, "Kaidan" looks like it would be one of those.
Its this case its supposed to be a character name so its hard to know this is an exception to the English language rules on how its written and actually spoken.
Well she died on Virmere for me but from the little interaction I had from her she was cute, and she's voiced by a black woman :P.
It's too bad you can't romance her as femshep. She is racist but I think it stems more from pure ignorance, not malice, even when/if it sounds malicious, I did attempt to talk her into being more respectful of her words.

Kinda weird, really, that they added Kaidan options for MSheps (not that mine will ever pick anyone other than Tali), but not Ashley option for FSheps. You still can use mods or change your gender to male whenever romance options with Ashley gets present, but even if you don't have to tweak your save file every now and then, you still have to go through voiceless phrases of Shepard, which kinda kill the atmosphere

Yes you can, with SGR (Same Gender Romance) mod in ME1 installed (This is the way I know of romancing Ash with FemShep). Its not impossible

People ignore how Ash grows and gets over her racism and is the first to vocally oppose Cerberus in 1. Also Mass Effect brings out my savior complex so my favorite characters are always the ones I feel I've made better by interacting with. Like in 3 both Tali and Ash state that they're bff's and I'm pretty sure Ash says Tali is like a sister to her now.
I don't know why people so focus on the racism thing about Ash. It's a general underline theme or narrative of the series, the whole "everyone hate each other at first than come together at the end" mushy mushy stuffs. At least half of your crew are racist to one another at first. Priestly (the chief-engineer of ME1) even called them a "zoo".

What that's said, both Ash and Kaiden are just badly written for their role. I don't know what exactly the role they are meant for except to create "drama". Vermire is supposed to create a deep connection ... except the problem is the one who creates that connection die, and the writer for some reason decided to make the one who lives act as if they have that connection. The hospital visit scene in ME3 (when Ash/Kaiden still in coma) is very cringe to me because it's so manufactured because I feel zero connection there. If the one lying there is Garrus or Tally, then it would make sense.

Pressly is the navigator on the Normandy SR1
Adams is the chief enginner of the Alliance crew on both Normandy SR1 and SR2 (after you hand over the last one to the Alliance)
her character has always been boring and i have never remembered anything she has said, just like women irl. outrage culture needs to go away.
i know more about random side character you meet for 1 minute and never see again than i do with both ashley and kaiden.
