Game constantly crashes after completing Thane's loyalty mission

The game will show me the mission completed screen, then the loading screen, then the screen will go black and the game will crash.

I've tried various conversation options including the Renegade option to punch the Stock Boy.

Verified integrity of the game's files and there were no problems.

Any ideas?

Same here. I have EXACTLY the same problem. I already completet ME2 a year ago. No problems, no bugs. Started playing it for the second time and now it crashes after the mission completet screen. Where does this come from? Need help too.

Hey dude I got the game working again. Here's what I did.

I think the reason the game kept crashing was because Garrus was in my party when I started Thane's mission. Because both Garrus and Thane have missions in that same place it probably bugged out or something.

Anyways you have to restart the entire mission over again and make sure that Garrus isn't in your party.

I'm having the same problem, but I do not have Garrus in my party (I have already completed his loyalty mission). The game either CTDs or the screen just goes black after the Mission Completed screen (I have finished the mission four times now). I tried verifying game cache; Steam downloaded nothing. Any tips on what to try next?

For me just trying a different party worked. I chose party members whose loyalty missions I had already completed (I think at least Miranda worked, can't remember anything more). For me at least Grunt with loyalty mission started but not completed caused crashes every time in this playthrough.

I had exactly this problem. In my case the solution was to download Gibbed's Mass Effect 2 save game editor (http://social.bioware.com/project/4373) and flag "Thane 1st Appearance" to true. As for some reason, it was still false.
