Online only?
Or is it for just the first start up?

I'm gonna being without internet for a while in a couple days and want to know if I can play it offline with the same save.

Steam DRM can be quite aggressive.

I've heard that if you use a cracked .exe to take off the Steam DRM it works just fine and uses the same save files safely, which you can use when you return to Steam without any issue. I hear you can find such replacement .exes on Google easily.

so in other words when I go offline I can't use the same save?

You can use the same save, but Steam's offline-mode is EXTREMELY erratic, and I would strongly recommend persuing other options.

Well if the Saves are stored locally, I shouldn't have any problems, but I know what you mean.

Yes, they're stored locally. It's a well made game.

If you don't trust Steam's offline mode you can also redeem your ME2 key on Origin and download it from there instead (before you lose internet access of course).

Origin is not actually required to be running or online in order to run ME2 even when downloaded from there. You just need to do a one-time activation using your EA account details. Game saves will still be fine and work as normal.

Unless you have an extreme dislike for EA/Origin of course.

Personally I've had no issue with Steam's offline mode even over longer periods than two weeks, which is the time people say it lasts for. Valve say it's meant to be infinite

I do, but I may do that as well, thank you. I didn't know I could take my key from steam and use on origin. Also it's not that I distrust steam offline mode it's just some games don't really use it and I was wondering if ME2 did and it worked well.

Then yeah, as long as you've run it once and authorized any DLC then ME2 itself has no problems being offline.
