Stuck with same weapons?
I chose the Sentinel class so I could use the biotic and tech abilities, but so far I have been limited to these stupid ass pistols and a clunky, low ammo grenade launche. Please tell me I'll be able to use shottys and ARs at some point? I'm gonna be pissed if I have to go through this entire game with these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ peashooters (I'm a surgeon with the shotgun)

About 50-60% of the way through the game, you'll be able to choose one weapon class as your advanced training.

If you wanted to play a class with combat skills, you should have picked a class with combat skills. Sentinel hardly needs weapons, though; it's got the strongest combination of powers in the game.

Yeah it's just I didn't know by choosing Sentinel I was cutting off all the other weapons. I figured you could still use all of them with Sentinel, just they weren't as powerful or something.

♥♥♥♥, considering a restart now cause these pistols are no fun. And if I go Soldier, I will still benfit from the Tech/Biotic Powers that I can get my party members to use.

Thanks dude

Best bet is choose soldier then edit the ini to turn off weapons so your back doesn't look like you are carrying a big multicoloured shell on your back. I hid all weapons apart from the Geth assault rifle (dlc). Obviously this removes them from the game, do only after you have achieves if you want em. It makes your Shepard look much better, You see Shepard instead of a big oblong box of weapons.

Then buy the powers? I'm sure you can with one of the mineables..

I play as Vanguard. Which is normally just Pistol + Shotgun. But yeah, 1/2 way into the game, I can grab an Assault Rifle and kick ass with it :). I prefer Pistol + Assault Rifle.

The point of the classes' weapon restrictions is that you're supposed to rely on your MORE POWERFUL abilities to compensate. Who really *needs* other weapons when you can explode tech armor?, etc.

You start with Pistols no matter what btw... that's the tutorial...

Sentinels have two main weapons (until they can unlock 1 more, like we said 50% into the game): Pistols + Submachine Guns.

I believe the class descriptions themselves tell you about what weapons they use.

Yeah, that's the tradeoff. Soldier can use all the weapons(except SMG, but Assault Rifle makes up for that), but has very few active abilities. Three of the five soldier powers are passive ammo mods. Classes like sentinel and vanguard and adept actually sound pretty fun compared to soldier, since everyone already uses guns in combat, making soldier's niche a little less novel.

I'm like an hour into the game and not down with this pistol BS. I'm gonna restart as Soldier and have party members with bitoic/tech powers that I can hotkey, that way I get the best of both worlds in combat.

Thanks for your input fellas.

I realize I'm really late but you could download and install Gibbed's Save Editor for Mass Effect 2, and you should come across an option that allows you to add weapons/weapon training to your class. I do not recall which category it is in at the moment, but I'm sure, if you decide to do this, that you can find it on google. Other than that there's no way to get all weapons on every class, but like I said, using the Save Editor would help you get them on your current character.
