Mass Effect 2 (2010)

Cerberus' Reputation?
What has Cerberus ever done to you that made you think they were bad? My Dad played Mass Effect 2, HIS Commander Shepard was with Cerberus, and THAT was a matter of Systems Alliance Treason!

I would NEVER betray the Systems Alliance for Cerberus' Power Trips & Personal Gain!

They killed the Pope.

Actually, I wouldn't necessarily hate them for that.

To be fair, if you explored certain places in Mass Effect 1, I think you get shot at by Cerberus.

first cerberus was an Alliance secret agency, but during ME1 they were rogue soldiers and mecenaries and handled with terrorism.
i know, cerberus worked for its reputation, but i was really mad when Alliance turned its back on Shepard in ME2 and i was grateful for rebuilding Shep

Better ask yourself this then: Terrorism or Treason? Which is the more serious crime?! The answer: They're not even close! High Treason is the MOST Serious Crime! It's a Capital Offense subject to a Captial Punishment which leads to Death Row.

In ME, Cerberus says that the Cerberus people Shepard encounted in ME1 where mostly part of their military wing, but that does not really excuse what they have done. It's really a question of weather or not their actions are juistifed.

Their goal is the advancment and preservation of the human race, by any means nessercy. Their goals are actually noble, but their meathods are what brings them into question. But would the galaxy be saved without them? Remember it was the Allience and other Council races which bickers when the Reapers arrived.

advancment and preservation of the human race, but at what cost?! The lives of innocents?! Those join Cerberus are Traitors to The Systems Alliance!

Not really sure if they can be counted as traitors. The Systems Allience just tell aliens that Cerberus do not reprisent the actions and feeling of the Allience, but make no effort to stop them. Cerberus are too well funded and orgenised to be stopped over night, even if that was the wish of the Allience. I belive that the Allience sees Cerberus as an nesscery evil. Without them, would we really know so much about Biotics in Humans, or would the Reaper invation be stopped?

Kind of like the western nations' use, after WW2, of the human experimentation data generated by the Nazis?

Kind of, yeah. The Allience does benifit from what Cerberus does.

That's probably intended by the writers. The Mass Effect trilogy greatly borrows from WWII, well, I guess symbolism and themes. Should be obvious since the name of the Normandy though, haha.

One way or another, humanity in the last several decades has benefited greatly from the amoral experimentation conducted by Nazi scientists, pursuing their eugenics in ways that other societies certainly tried or had elements who wanted to, but didn't/couldn't. Of COURSE the USA took as much of that data as possible, and indeed German scientists themselves.. Only regressives or reactionaries just purge the data for being 'corrupt' in itself. But I suppose we have plenty of those as well (in WWII they would have been something like a type of Christian who might think that any data by Nazi eugenics would set us down their same road.. and well, look where we are now, seriously considering the prospect of widespread 'designer babies'...).
