I did it, it was annoying as hell, but I finished it. Prepare to rage at the 2nd to last mission, took me about 80 tries.

Yes. The ME trilogy as a whole on Insanity is honestly not that hard. It just depends on how long you take to get used to the the level of difficulty of Insanity from game to game because it varies. But some things stay the same such as learning when to take your shots, making use of your squads abilities, and not being in a rush and taking your time and thinking about your moves when engaged in combat. Also, it helps to stick with the class you first choose in ME1 because you already know what to expect and have gotten use to the class. The only real hurdle is the transition from ME1 to ME2. You have to relearn a little bit about your class again but not much. The transition from ME2 to 3 is basically nonexistant, probably a new ability here and there, otherwise it'd be the same and you'll be an expert on your class by the time you hit ME3.

If I were to rate how hard the games were on Insanity in order

1. ME1
2. ME2
3. ME3

They are in order, funny, isn't it? I put ME1 as the hardest because of the horrible cover system, and the combat can be a bit crazy without actual cover.

I'm sure other people will pitch in and cover anything I've missed.

Easily. From my perspective of a normally non-shooter player that just feels a completionism about Mass Effect so tries Insanity at some point:

ME1 New Game - A terribly grindy experience. Full of 'cheap shots', not actual difficulty. But since there's so many cheap shots (and bullet spongey enemies), this can mean its 'hard' to 'get through'.

ME1 New Game Plus - Well, less grindy and more acceptable, but still not fun.

ME2 New Game - The actual hardest in the trilogy IMO. Like actual difficulty, not cheap design. Be very careful and aware of what is happening. Missions like Horizon can be hell for me.

ME2 New Game Plus - Easier but not much easier since NG+ in ME2 is more of a token feature added late in development.

ME3 New Game - Easiest of the 3, actually, but still with challenge.

ME3 New Game Plus - May as well call it Veteran mode.... I find it quite easy to get through, especially if I was completionist in the previous playthrough.

ME3 Insanity = Silver in ME3 MP. If that. Try soloing Gold and Platinum and SP Insanity is NOTHINGGGGG.

Again, I'm not a normally shooter player, but I can play ME3 on Insanity pretty fine, except for a few times like Grissom Academy mission.

My rating:
1. ME2
2. ME1
3. ME3

But I accept Sarge's point of view as well.

Yea modern games are all the same the more so called harder they get all they do is give the NPCs massive amounts of HPs and resists and reduce player dmg to almost nothing, at no time was that fun to play when you constantly feel rubbish,

It is far better to reduce the HPs of both parties so ts more skill based, as it is in ME 3 i cant get past the 2 banshes in the bomb room as none of the abilitys that are maxed to work shields/barriers ect even do 1/4 dmg and the cool downs are still up when i either get face humped by the banshee or the fodder that is moving to fast to get caught in the diff powers of my team.

2 melee hits from a husk and im dead, not to mention the banshees damn near automatice rate of fire on that damn spell of theirs that does 99% dmg if i dont get away, the number of times ive been killed by husks because the banshes go 2 diff directions and port behind me and hump me to death b4 i can even turn around, if i try to avoid them like on previous game b4 the fodder is dead they gang up on either me or the closest team member and the fodder you just cant keep track of that place is so small and the banshees port so fast not even a delay between port and action if they are behind i just die in 20-30 secs to melee from husk or banshee face hump ect.

Monastery Banshees = Just Keep Moving.
EliteSarge Oct 13, 2015 @ 10:09pm
What Swobyj said.

Keep moving and also kill the husks first then all you have to deal with are the banshees.

If you have troubles against monastery banshees, move around and find a pillar or cover. When they shoot the orb just back off your cover and you should do fine.

ME 3 insanity is the easiest since the map is big enough to manouver and flank enemies. The last mission felt appropriately difficult when you have banshees et al. coming at you. Not the most fun situation to be in, but you really feel the desperation of holding the line.

ME 1 insanity is boring. Bullet sponges and enemies 1 shot you =/= difficult.

ME 2 insanity was tough. I had trouble using Soldier and ran out of bullets. Maybe I'll do another insanity run with infiltrator.

the whole problem with the difficulty systems in these modern games is they make you feel like some drunk bum with a bottle cap after playing as a semi god type thing, instead of making every head shot fatal or something on both sides so your actually working your skills you have gained dureing the games.

So if you use your super abilitys right you should be able to get thru if your not careless, my problem is with banshes is so far if they arent being attacked they B line right for me and kill me, it takes every thing 3 maxed chars can throw at it to get one shield down to 1/3 to a half depending on how close to the initial blasts it is.

mean while the other banshe is moving fast and ports behind me for instant kill or the husks avoid the singularitys/lifts slams grenades ect and it just takes one all but dead husk to kill me in 2 hits if im full shield/helth if my health below 50% even with shield up it insta kills me, i get the same death scence any way.

If you have difficulty during combat or you are overwhelmed, feel free to load up the power wheel (the thing where the whole game pauses) and take a good look at your surroundings and decide what to do. Bring squadmates who can do damage to banshees with skills like EDI or force your squadmates to aggro the banshees.

Running in ME3 is much much better compared to ME2. You aren't an aging soldier who can only run for short intervals anymore, so abuse it while maintaining awareness of your surroundings. I finished the last mission without using grenades because I got used to ME2's no grenade combat (and I didn't think it could do a lot of damage)

I used to play the ME series on the PS3. my take on insanity over the 3 games

ME - not too difficult on Insanity, but annoying, especially MAKO bits
ME2 - IMO hardest on insanity
ME3 - insanity felt like a cakewalk compared to ME2

After doing ME2 on insanity I was kinda disapointed with insanity on ME3. The only somewhat hard part is dealing with some of the banshees and Brutes on the very end... but as a Vanguard you just use Biotic Charge and dodge, Biotic Charge then dogde, Biotic Charge then talk with Hackett, then Done!

ME2 is the hardest.
