controller configuration for gamepad suppport
I recently finally found the way to use the native Steam client to rebind keys to the gamepad. Simply plug in your gamepad, go to your library, and click on your game. There will be a button in the middle of the screen on the right hand side, "controller configuration" that will take you to an extremely nice GUI that allows you to map any key to any button, dpad, or stick of the gamepad.

This is old news, you can do this with literally any game, it has been like that since circa 2017.

This is an awful solution for Mass Effect 2 specifically. This is because there is a way better controller mod, since Bioware never gave this game proper controller support despite leaving console files in the PC game files:

This mod gives you the console UI for combat, and you also get controller prompts on screen, rather than keyboard prompts, making it less confusing if you forget what you bound a key to. Moreover it requires less tweaking as you can modify everything in-game, without needing to return to controller configuration if you don't like a keybind.

The mod also removes the 30 save limit (a minor general tweak).

I understand. I personally used the Logitech F310 and the Logitech Gaming Profiler, and that workaround was awesome. There were reports on Nexus Mods that ALOT/ALOV broke the controller mod for some gamers, unfortunately. I knew that Steam had made this functionality, but for some reason I always thought it was in the Big Picture mode, and every time I went to try to set it up in Big Picture mode it was confusing.

I don't think everyone knows about how to access this Steam functionality, despite it being available for a few years.
