Mass Effect 2 (2010)

How to get Lair of the Shadow Broker?
Lair of the Shadow Broker doesn't even seem to be available on Origin anymore -- is that correct? It doesn't show up when you search on that site anyway.

Would the Steam version of the game be messed up by adding on a version of Shadow Broker that you either purchased on Origin or, if it's not available there, acquired by other means?

Not correct, it's still available on Origin and on social.bioware.com.

In Origin, mouse over the Mass Effect 2 tile and click the "i" next to the Download / Play button. The page you are taken to will have all the available DLC listed.
For the Steam version of the game, go to social.bioware.com, go to the menu bar across the top of the page, and select Games > Mass Effect 2 > Official DLC and you will have the option to purchase and download installers for DLC.

DLC purchased through Origin is not compatible with Steam.

I won't comment on any risks "other means" would pose. Those are your responsibility and no one else's.

Tsh.

So even though ME2 is on Steam again, you still can't play the complete game on Steam without resorting to "other methods".

Very short-sighted way of doing business.

I agree, pain in the something-or-other that you can't buy them direct through steam. Also, I have yet to see any of the DLC from that era (Mass Effect 1,2,3, Dragon Age 1,2) go on any kind of sale.... -.-

It's a shame because Lair of the Shadow Broker, Arrival and Overlord are excellent DLC's, imho.

Recently got Mass Effect 2 and all the DLC's up and running for a friend on Steam. Followed this guide.

Had zero problems with it at all --- same as many who have used. No "risks" involved.

So, sorry to be picky but the statement "DLC purchased through Origin is not compatible with Steam." is a little false. It will run in the steam version of Mass Effect 2 absolutely fine, with no problems nor risks. There is just no easy "transfer here" button...

Downside? Requirement of owning ME2 on Steam AND Origin. :steamfacepalm: So, okay if you pick it up super cheap in the sales... Otherwise...

You can play the complete game on Steam. You just have to purchase, download and install DLC through social.bioware.com.

News to me. Glad it works for you. I thought there are some files in the Config folder that need to have edits when installing the DLC; which is why a simple copy-paste wouldn't work.

Nope, no config edits necessary. Thankfully, it is as easy as that guide indicates!
