It's a great game, considering its age. Definitely well worth playing before ME2 and you'll be much more invested in the story.
It's not impossible to play ME2 without playing the first one. If you don't want to play it, you'll be fine, but you'll miss out on backstory detail, bringing your ME1 Shepard into 2, and meeting squad members for the first time.
Reading someone else's recap won't ever be as good as playing it properly! You might as well grab the first one (it'll probably go on sale soon) and give it a go.
I kill reapers you're nothing to me but hamster lunch
On a serious note though Mass Effect 1's combat sucked for me but it's a great intro to the trilogy and you'll understand so much more refferences and all that. I'd just set combat to casual and go through the story, the story is amazing as with every game in the trilogy.
You can also get the entire trilogy for a few bucks for origin on g(2)a
I'm sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you- I'm getting a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on this line.
Thanks!
While the mechanics are certainly dated, the combat for the first game is in many ways superior to the other two... The game allows for you to choose between guns/powers a Blazin', or using the environments, especially for the side missions, to your advantage for some sniping from a distance... This versatility is lacking in ME2/3... While you may have two different ways around a room of enemies, you're forced to crouch behind conveniently placed crates about with no option to retreat back to The Mako... You're usually stuck in that room with a door behind and ahead of you that's sealed until you complete the "Pinnacle Station-like" Combat Challenge...:-)
