Recommend me some similar games

I like sci-fi games, in case that wasn't clear. Especially games in space that are similar to Mass Effect 2. So... RPGs, basically.. with character dialog and a great story.

My favorite games:

Half-Life 2
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Games I liked:
Dragon Age: Origins
The Witcher
BioShock 1
BioShock 2
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (I only liked this a little bit because I like space, but I'm generally not otherwise a fan of COD, and thought the game lacked the character dialog and story I like from Mass Effect 2)

Games I did not like:
Fallout 3
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Already played:
BioShock Infinite

Already planning to play:
Cyberpunk 2077
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Black Mesa Source

I have two more "The Witcher" games to play, but I don't really feel like playing a medieval game right now... I want a sci-fi game in space. Not really interested in playing Mass Effect: Andromeda because of the various scandals associated with the game, its poor reception from fans, low ratings compared to the other Mass Effect games, and Origin account use requirement.

People have suggested "The Outer Worlds"... and I'll look into that.

Any other suggestions? Perhaps something from a smaller developer that I may have overlooked?

Seems like there hasn't really been very many new sci-fi RPGs in space since Mass Effect and I'm running out of options. I mean look at how long it has been since KOTOR 2...

Anachronox is probably my favourive sci-fi, it's not really similar to ME, but you can recruit amazing cast of characters with unique abilities to your team, it is also one of the most fun games I've ever played - humor is literally everywhere.

don't listen to the loudest voice here but that of the silent majority which still play this one regularly... while the Multiplayer isn't anywhere near the calibre of ME3's, the Single Player is quite good and very deserving of the 'MASS Effect' brand... it's only real flaw is that it's unfinished... key story arcs weren't followed up with DLC and a much needed sequel... most of the barking outta the gate was, of course, all about graphics and textures which were for the most part corrected later... but as the old deoderant commercial says "you never get a second chance at a first impression"... 'Andromeda' measures up and far outclasses most games out there today...:-)

I'm not really interested in debating the merits (or lack thereof) of Mass Effect: Andromeda.

I'd say you've covered everything on it's level.

Your suggestions don't need to have the same high quality as Mass Effect necessarily. Just looking for any similar games. Not fussy about graphics either. If it looks as good as the original Mass Effect, that's good enough probably.

Yeah, I really liked Andromeda as well. it's a very good game.

Dragon Age II was a little repetitive in terms of maps and had its frustrating moments, but was still a worthwhile play.

The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 should also make your list if you liked the first one.

Shadowrun Returns
Shadowrun Dragonfall
Shadowrun Hong Kong

Returns is the first one and has a great story but doesn't give you a squad. I'd still start there to get a hang of the universe. Dragonfall and Hong Kong have great stories PLUS a wonderful squad to share your wins and losses with.

The Banner Saga 1, 2, 3.

Great story. Great characters who live or die by your choices. It is a combo of an RPG and Oregon Trail, which not everyone likes.

Planescape: Torment

Original classic game with interesting characters in a weird setting as you grapple with amnesia.

Pyre is a weird mix of spots game and visual novel surrounding a team involved in a ritual sport. You might like it, you might not.

Haven't played it yet but I'm told Jade Empire is a hidden gem from BioWare's early days.
