Windows 10- configuration utility crashes

Hi i'm trying to import my ME1 character into ME2 but every time i startup the config utility it crashes while carrying out the initial system detection. I've tried looking up how to fix this but there doesnt seem to be much about windows 10 (more related to 7 and 8) i tried downloading the patch but because i downloaded the game yesteray on steam it just says "this patch is not for steam games" any help would be great thanks

I've had this problem with all bioware games.
I found using the troubleshoot compatibility option fixes the issue, but you'll need to do this everytime you launch it.

For anyone that finds this. if you can't import saves through the config utility. you can create a ME1 folder in the mass effect 2 save folder and copy the save files from the mass effect 1 save folder over to the ME1 folder and they will show up in game.
