This video explains ME2 pro and cons. It has convinced me to play the DLC.

Kind of dissapointed.
Soldier play familiar to COD which is less fun when you can have powers in a standard fire fight.
There's three NPCs with biotics, so playing as one in this game seems redundant.
Killing from a distance is extremely satisfying. As is blasting your way with a nice shotgun.
As everything else, it depends on your personal tastes.
And by playing as the soldier you can still use biotic and tech powers because you bring along two of your trusty crew with you as well that you can command and use their skills whenever you need etc.
That's just my 2 cents - some people like to personally be the one sending out drones or shooting blue goo from their hands to make people fly and that's fun too :)
You're question is very subjective though - I will quote the magic school bus and say "get in there, get dirty, and make mistakes" and find out what class you enjoy playing. Chances are you are going to play the game atleast 2 times anyways (1 paragon and 1 renegade) and you'll find your own path through the game I am sure.
So, to OP, just one tip: Try Everything.
Most powerful: Soldier, vanguard or sentinel
Soldier is the easiest to beat the game with, regardless of difficulty. Adrenaline Rush + a good assault rifle (vindicator, mattock) beats anything.
Sentinel is the most tanky and has the best offensive powers (warp and overload).
Vanguard teleports into enemies' faces and uses shotguns. It has arguably the highest ceiling but also the lowest floor. A bad vanguard will constantly expose themselves and die.
Some people swear by the infiltrator... I don't know why. In my experience, soldier does everything better. Engineer is playable but is strictly worse than sentinel. Adept sucks.
That being said, it's not a difficult game. Every class is built around the same core of health & shields, cover, pistol, SMG & heavy weapons. That's enough to beat the game on Insanity.
