Mass Effect 2: Ship Name?
I love mass effect 2, Just recently got into it having played and completed the first one abouta a week ago (Yeah im late but whatever) but why for the ship name, Normandy? Is that the most boring name in all of gaming history or what? Why couldn't I name MY ship? Just a little thing i know, but it bothers me.

I thought the Normandy name was a lot more likeable than what they called the ship in ME:A.

What would you prefer to have called it?

I would have called the ship either: The Cinere (Latin For Ashes) Or The Ouranós (Greek for Sky).
Are they good names? I know about the balle of Normandy and everything, But I would have liked to at least chosen my own ships name.

Custom ship names would pose problems for cutscenes because the shipname is printed on the side of the ship. Also maybe for dialog, because the ship's name is mentioned in the game dialog on many occasions.

Not sure if your names would be better because I don't know how they are pronounced, but Normandy sounds ok to me.

I'm amazed this bothers you enough to make a thread about it.

I know its petty, Sorry, and i suppose as you said it would take a LOT of work to get it working in game with dialog and stuff, I'll Just have to live with it. But maybe one day in a different game they will do it...

It's in the codex. There is a specific naming "system" the alliance uses. For example Dreadnoughts are named after mountains (Everest, Kilimanjaro etc), cruisers after cities on Earth, carriers after great leaders or artists. And frigates after famous battles like Agincourt or the Normandy.

Gameplay wise. It's a voice-over thing. It's said a lot in dialog, can't have it be something random. Like the last name Shepard.
