Mass Effect 2 (2010)

Mass Effect 2 (2010)

Origin vs Steam Mass Effect 2
I've had the deluxe version of Mass Effect 2 for a while, and have yet to play (currently working through ME1). I've just gotten the Origin Mass Effect 2 for free and noticed some story DLC is available to purchase with the Origin version, such as the Lair of the Shadow Broker and alternative appearance packs.

My question is: are these DLCs in the Steam version, and if not can they be purchased? If not, then I may stick with the Origin version and get the extra DLC. Seeing as I'll be forced to go with Origin anyway for when I move onto ME3. I'm currently trying to play catch up with the ME universe before Andromeda. So far I'm loving every minute of it.

You can use the Steam key to redeem Mass Effect 2 on Origin and have a Steam copy and a Origin copy. If you want the DLC you need Origin or Bioware accounts. Steam don't sell DLC for this game.

Plus with Mass Effect 1 the Origin version comes pre loaded with two free DLC's that Steam version doesn't have. Someone did a guide how to get the free ones working on Steam though. I redeemed the Steam key for first one on Origin so again two copies of the game.

Steam version doesn't have any DLC at all. Even free ones you have to install manually. That's why I play Mass Effect 2 only on Origin now.

Thanks for your help, I'll move to Origin for the rest of the series. With ME1 I did get Bring Down the Sky DLC with my Bioware account and installed on my Steam version. I heard pinacle station wasn't worth it so I skipped it.

Well, Pinnacle Station is free as well, so 'not worth' is an opinion I cannot share. It doesn't contribute to the story, but I see no reason to deliberatly avoid XP, credits, access to highest level equipment and free refill of grenades...
Recently EA made free dlc installers for both Mass Effect 1 and 2 - https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/dragon-age/dragon-age-origins/bioware-classics-dlc/

PCGamingWiki mentioned this, and it apparently works with the Steam version, so I thought I'd share it. Some say you still need to purchase the dlc to access them though. I haven't had time to test this out.

Cool, I'll check it out. I'm installing ME2 now through Origin. Just finished ME1. Amazing story. I didn't bother with Pinnacle station due to hearing its just a virtual testing ground for experience and equipment, with no actual real story. My current gear was maxed out and I had no problems progressing with the rest of the story after completeing most of the side quests and pretty much was maxed out on all skills. Also I had trouble getting my hands on Pinnacle station, unlike Bring Down the Sky.

Yeah you're not missing out much by skipping Pinnacle Station.

I hope you enjoy Mass Effect 2 :)

Thanks. Just started playing. Starts off pretty intense. I imported my character from ME1. Paragon infultrator, level 50, lost Kaidan, romanced Liara, saved wrex, and saved the council. Are there any drawbacks from importing the previous character, apart from not trying a new character?

Not at all, afaik. There are many drawbacks from NOT importing previous character, though.

Yea, importing your character is a core element of the series. If you have a savegame to import, do it by all means. You can also switch to another class if you wish.

I'll echo this. There's much more to be gained from importing a character and I'm not sure why you wouldn't (unless you didn't own one of the previous games).
