How do I get things out of my backpack?

I can see an umbrella stand, pick it up, but not place it from my bag.
I can look at it in my bag. I can't do anything but emote about it.
Same for the clothing stand I already have that penguin mcwaddleface wants.
(I do not know the names yet)
It seems like a pretty basic thing in a game this handholding. I must be missing something..

they're quest items, so you will eventually give them to a character once the quest is completed! the game won't let you get rid of them because you need them for the quest, and if they're gone you'll just be stuck. you won't place them, you'll just end up giving it to a character when the time comes!
