Stream to 3D 6.0 adds AI-assisted Depth Guided conversion alongside the established Temporal method. It also makes the Configuration Wizard smarter about finding real-time settings for the selected video or Live Source and your Windows PC.

Two complementary conversion methods

Temporal remains the efficient method and the broadest route to real-time playback and streaming across Windows hardware.
Depth Guided uses visual depth cues to produce a different stereoscopic result, including for static and low-motion scenes.
Depth Guided provides Quality and Performance processing modes.
Both methods can be used with video files and Live Sources through the applicable Play, Stream and Convert workflows.

Video processing remains local to your PC. Stream to 3D does not upload your video for conversion.

Smarter real-time recommendations

For Play and Stream, the Configuration Wizard now measures a quality-ranked set of useful options against the selected source and current workflow. It recommends the first option that the complete path can sustain and shows the nearest measured alternative.

Stream is assessed separately because network encoding adds work beyond playback. Convert has no real-time deadline, so a selected Depth Guided file conversion can take longer than the video's running time.

If you prefer not to wait for comparative proving, you can select Temporal or Depth Guided directly. A direct selection applies your chosen method and preferences without claiming that the configuration has been performance-proven.

Further Release 6 improvements

Refined fractional-frame Temporal depth behavior and stronger handling around detected scene transitions.
More reliable stereo presentation for affected cinematic aspect ratios in desktop-to-XR viewing routes.
Improved active network-address selection, port and firewall setup, and streaming bitrate and buffer defaults.

Video files and Live Sources

Depth Guided can be used with ordinary video files, PC screens, cameras and capture devices. Live Source Play and Stream are assessed against the source capture rate; Live Source Convert can complete below real time.

Live Sources require the Live Sources feature. Depth Guided also requires Depth Guided feature access.

Feature access

The Stream to 3D 6.0 application update is available to existing Steam owners. Some existing owners require the Depth Guided feature upgrade to use the new method.

Do not purchase an upgrade unless Stream to 3D reports that Depth Guided is not enabled for your Steam account. Temporal remains available without a high-end AI-capable GPU.

Stream to 3D 5.5 — Live Sources Integrated, VR/XR Support Expanded

Stream to 3D 5.5 makes Live Sources easier to create and use by bringing camera, capture-device and PC-screen setup directly into the main application. It also expands the Configuration Wizard with updated presets for current VR and XR devices.

Live Sources are now integrated

You can now create and manage Live Sources from within Stream to 3D by opening Settings and selecting Live Capture.

Create reusable sources for cameras, capture devices, PC screens and audio inputs.
When Live Sources are first selected from Play, Stream or Convert, Stream to 3D offers to create default main-camera and screen-capture sources.
Refresh the device list when cameras, capture devices or audio sources are connected or removed.
Configure source format, resolution, frame rate, 3D conversion sample rate and audio delay from the integrated dialog.
Use the resulting Live Sources with Play, Stream or Convert, according to the features available for your Steam account.

This removes the need to launch the separate Live Capture Source Creator for most common setup tasks and makes live-video conversion a more direct part of the normal Stream to 3D workflow.

Expanded Configuration Wizard

Release 5.5 adds or refreshes nominal per-eye resolution presets for current headsets and XR glasses, including:

XREAL One and 1S models
VITURE Beast and Luma models
VIVE Focus Vision
PICO 4 Ultra
Pimax Crystal Light and Crystal Super
Varjo XR-4
Bigscreen Beyond 2

Popular current device families are now easier to find, while older devices remain available under their existing vendor families.

The selected preset configures the stereoscopic output resolution. It does not connect or configure the headset or glasses themselves. Viewing still requires a compatible media player, desktop-to-XR route or 3D file player, depending on the workflow.

Hardware and performance

Real-time playback does not require a high-end AI-capable GPU.

Higher source and output resolutions, file encoding and network streaming still benefit from capable hardware and appropriate settings. Performance will also depend on the source frame rate, codec, selected workflow and receiving player or device.

Steam updates and feature access

The Stream to 3D 5.5 application update is free for existing Steam owners.

Access to the Configuration Wizard and Live Sources continues to follow the feature entitlements associated with the Steam account.

Current eligible Steam purchases include both features. Earlier owners only need to visit the Stream to 3D Item Store if the application reports that the corresponding feature is locked.

Do not purchase an upgrade unless Stream to 3D identifies that the feature is not currently enabled for your account.

How to update

Supported earlier versions will prompt when the 5.5 update is required.

To update:

Close Stream to 3D.
Allow the Steam client to download and install the update.
Launch Stream to 3D again after the update has completed.

Your existing settings and previously created Live Source files should remain available.

A note about Stream to 3D, support and setup

Stream to 3D has been available since 2023 and remains actively supported and developed.

Steam reviews represent only a very small fraction of the Stream to 3D user base. Across all stores, Stream to 3D has been purchased and used by more than 100 times as many people as the number of negative Steam reviews. A small number of negative reviews should therefore be read in that context.

Stream to 3D has always had documentation. The documentation is shown after installation and is linked from the Steam page. Discord support has also always been available and is linked from both the documentation and the Steam page.

Stream to 3D is a specialist Windows video and VR utility. VR software can be configuration-sensitive because it depends on the user’s PC, drivers, media players, headset or display, video source, network setup and selected workflow. Stream to 3D is designed to make this as easy as possible through documentation, support, guided workflows, the Configuration Wizard and context-sensitive help.

Stream to 3D does not require a high-end GPU for real-time conversion to the screen. GPU acceleration is beneficial for encoding to file and streaming, but one of the product’s strengths is that it can provide practical real-time 2D-to-3D conversion on lower-powered hardware.

Stream to 3D supports a broad range of workflows, including real-time playback, offline conversion, streaming, PC screen capture, live video source conversion and configurable 3D output formats.

If Stream to 3D does not work as expected on your system, please use the documentation and Discord support before assuming the product cannot do what it is designed to do. Configuration matters, and support is available.

Can I use this to watch any 2D file I download in 3D?

I used to have a TV that could convert anything I watched to 3D on the fly. Been looking for software that can do that. Is this it? How well does it work? EDIT: For instance, if I were to stream a video that my friends and I were watching in VR, would it be able to display the video in 3D SBS or OU as we were watching it, without taking the time to convert it? Or say I DL'd a sporting event to watch alone. Could I put on my VR headset and watch it in 3D without conversion? How good is the quality of on...

right eye is rendering purple

I have no idea what is happening now. It was rendering just fine. until I reinstalled windows 11 now it renders the right eye keeps flickering purple. Can anyone please help?
