Marketing is the responsibility of the publisher, not the developer. A lack of marketing falls on Square, not Ouka or Netease.
Ouka made a great work with this episode but now they're closed, who's going to propose ANOTHER ONE ? I think right now people are fuming with a bit of anger at SE offices.
Sure it's a classic, but it seems some people have imprinted on the original game like ducks, and it's both sad and funny seeing Square squeeze this cow for all its worth (and beyond).
They've been releasing trailers through official channels on YouTube and TikTok, they've got multiple accounts promoting advertisements on Twitter, they've had Sony promote trailers through their official channels, they had an actual TV commercial in Japan, and who actually watches broadcast TV any more? There have been multiple developer interviews, articles in magazines, and they released and advertised a demo for both PlayStation and PC. They sent pre-release copies to multiple reviewers and multiple big publications had reviews up on launch day. What else were you expecting them to do?
And like, on launch day, it was in the top 5 sellers on Amazon US and JP and the top 10 on Steam. It's still the #2 top selling PS5 game on Amazon JP. All signs seem to indicate that it's not a smash hit, but it's doing pretty well, despite what the trolls on the Steam forums think.
Everywhere else, yeah, they completely fumbled it.
Secret of mama had co op.
