This game is too difficult
Unless "Easy" is a joke name for a difficulty level, this game is too tough. I've been playing for 20 hours, with 24 attempts, and the farthest I can get is level 10. Every time I get there, the game ends the same way. I start the level with 16 dust, and none of the first four or five rooms give me enough dust to power more than one or two rooms. Now I'm standing at seven open rooms and a completely unmanageable onslaught that takes my crystal from 21 to 0 in three seconds flat. Nothing I can do.

Now, like most internet forums, I know I'm going to get pointed to guides that do nothing but tell me the basic goal of the game. I know the goal of the game. I know how to maximize my lack of dust by spreading my team out when I open doors. I know to use the guys with scamper as the door openers and put the guys with the most speed as outliers so they can rush into the room I'm channeling all the monsters into.

I know about building Industry modules first and then moving into Food or Science. I know about choke points. I know about tanks and explorers and door openers and operators and repair people. I know how to micro-manage my pause button to make sure that my crystal carrier stays alive when moving through rooms that inexplicably and permanently knock out all current and future modules in the room for a stupidly long number of turns (if not the rest of the floor). I know all this stuff. But the game is just too unforgiving, starting at about Floor 9. I barely make it out of there alive, with nothing to show for it on Floor 10.

They got their money out of me, I guess, so there's no incentive for them to change anything. But if anyone here is thinking of picking this game up, know that you're probably never going to get to the end. And even if you do, I'm willing to bet it's some stupid CONGRATURATION screen and nothing else. Because life's about the journey or something.

The names of the difficulty levels are a joke.
I'll spare you the advise, you gave it to yourself :)
[APOC] Dirksade Dec 2, 2014 @ 12:36am
One piece of advice I can offer is to invest research into Emergency modules. they can power unpowered rooms, and they make monsters drop more dust than they usually would.

Basically as Dirksade said, other than that you sound like you know what to do.

Man, it was desighned to be difficult, nobody will accept easy dungeon crawlers\rogue-likes.

I think you're being a bit unreasonable here. All of the endless games have been supported long after release, and to me it seems obvious that the devs make games they'd like to play, rather than what nets them the most money (short term at least).

I can empathize with your frustration. I've played roughly as much as you have, and i finally managed to snag a win on Easy today. Keep at it, and you will get there eventually. If you have a low resource pool / underdeveloped characters at level 8, you're already doomed to fail in the late game. Every new game should hopefully become a little better than the latter (not counting throwaways).

Heres what works for me: When you find the exit make sure to power EVERY ROOM that leads to it. Invest research into a nanostuner and place them everywhere. You can just make a run for it.
UvulaBob Dec 2, 2014 @ 2:33pm
If I don't have the dust, I can't power every room. I'd also have to power the rooms that hang off of those rooms. I'd also need to have had the nanostunner come up as a research choice. You're not really telling me anything I don't already know. The game is just really, really hard.

I don't understand why it needs to be so hard. That's what the alterna-pods are for. I don't want to have to play the "Too Easy " mode.

if dust is your issue, have you tried focusing on picking/buying heroes and items that have dust generating abilities such as pickpocket or that one that gives you bonus dust when you find dust in a room (forget its name)? have you gotten the shop and operated it to generate more dust?

also, have you tried depowering some rooms in one direction so you can temporarily power further rooms in another one, such that you can build defenses in those rooms? then after opening a door you take stock of which direction the majority of mobs are coming from and shift your power to those extra defenses.

hold on to spare items (dont just sell to that industry vendor right out). maybe on those later floors you'll run across a dust vendor, and your spare items suddenly become lifesaving precious dust.

while i have occasionally run across a floor that was decidedly tight on dust, it has been quite uncommon that i wasn't able to do something about it and scrape by. at least, it's been uncommon that my loss was due to not having enough dust, and more because i built the wrong defenses, or ran out of resources, or mismanaged my characters, or any number of other things :)

keep at it, don't let frustration get you. you can do it!

They need to rename the difficulties. "Very Easy" is actually "Normal", and "Easy" is actually "Hard." Got my first win on Very Easy today! (For some reason the game unlocked the Armory for me, so yay!)

Here's a trick that can save your butt depending on who you choose: try to leave some rooms unopened when you find the exit. The rooms will start auto-opening when monsters spawn in them. This counts a 'turn'. You don't get any resources, but YOUR HERO SKILLS COOL DOWN every time a door opens. I've passed floors I shouldn't have with by spamming Skroig's Red Plume 3 times while fleeing with the crystal.

Very Easy - Normal
Easy - Hard
The hard mode ship - This mode will punch a hole in your soul in a single floor

tbh the game got very easy after the 3rd attempt, understanding what gives what. i suggest you farm dust from monsters. ive passed it in every ship on easy and very easy, except library and Founder pack ship. Sanitery pod is on progress atm, just takes a long time though but you got to understand the game and its weaknesses.the game is barely luck, you just got to know what your doing. heres a cool tip, open every door thats near the core.
always leave a dark room open and farm the dust. research weapons or other moduls youll actually use. but luckily you cant pass it.... hard to enjoy a game that already got to easy for me.

I finally said "screw it" and tried the game on Too Easy mode. It's definitely a lot easier. I even made it to Floor 12. Is there some kind of deal where if you take too long on Floor 12, then all the doors open up? Because that happened to me. I certainly didn't acidentally pick up the crystal. I just noticed that more and more waves were pouring in. Before I could do anything about it, I died. Two and a half hours down the drain. Thanks, Amplitude!

No, there is no such timer :)

Most likely a Hurna Rider on his rhino bashed through doors, spawning more and more waves.
UvulaBob Dec 3, 2014 @ 9:45am
I'd read the Wiki, but it doesn't really tell me about the behavior of Hurna Riders other than that they attack a single door until moving onto another one.

I'm telling you, these doors were opening one after another rapidly, as if I had grabbed the crystal. But I hadn't The exit wasn't on my map, the music didn't change, and I was able to move and attack with all four of my team members.

It's not like a single rider took down seven doors, nor were tere seven riders each taking down one door at a time. I opened a door, saw that there were four waves, and when they were almost done I noticed that four more waves had appeared. Two seconds later, there were four more waves. NOwhere in the log in the lower right did it say anything about a door being busted open.

I'm going to try it again. If it bugs out again, then I'm done with this game.
