Inventory/Backpack transfer

Either I'm missing something, or does there seem to be no way to transfer items between the inventory area and the backpack except through heroes?

Click an item, then click an empty space in the inventory to move items around.

as what lucier said, strangely you need to ensure you have an empty space in the backpack to transfer an item in the inventory instead of just simply swaping them, minor complaint really.
