Optimal number of modules for Tear Gas?
I have no idea what the defense values of the monsters are, so I'm curious if it's worth it to build Tear Gas? The minimum number of offensive turrets I need to have before I build it is at least 2, so it'll usually be 2 offensive modules (Kip or Smoking), a Neurostun module, and then a Tear Gas module. I'm thinking it may be better to just build 3 offensive modules with a Neurostun and instead build a Tear Gas in rooms with 5 module slots. Thoughts?

well the way i see it is tear gass multiplies output of all your other guns (this number increaseing with rank of tier gass)

so from my experience, if it has 3+ slots tear gas is one of them

in 2 slot rooms the 2nd gun is more helpfull imo thought

Actually for really long rooms 2 neurostun modules+claymore works great. They slow down to a craw and clump together. Which makes claymores much more effective
Tear Gas can be handy in a room with one or more Dust Field Generator modules. Dust Field Generator significantly increases the Defense value of every hostile and friendly entity (but not module) in the room, while Tear Gas counters those effect nicely with the Defense stat reduction on hostile entities. You actually need a decent amount of defense for each of the floor number and the monster class you're attempting to tank, as things get a little more difficult as you go along and some monsters are tougher to take hits from than others, but there are just some situations where what you really want is to be able to have your party stand in a room with monsters and not die, and a gas/dustfield setup can help with that under the right circumstances.

WHAT?! You sure about that?

hmm, that doesn't sound right. i'm remembering that dust field generators increase defense for Heroes and Modules (major and minor), and not enemies

Yes in rooms that have 4+ slots I like to go 1 Tear Gas, 1 Neurostun, and the rest as Smoking Guns.
