How do you revive your dudes?
One of my dudes was "killed" or downed or whatever you want to call it. How do I revive him? I'm seeing no options on the UI.

Well ♥♥♥♥. How do you recruit more, then?
melkathi Oct 22, 2014 @ 9:01am
You will randomly encounter more heroes in the dungeon and recruit them by paying a food cost depending on their faction and level (prisoners cost the most to recruit, natives the least - guards have a higher level cost).

Okay, one more question for you guys.

I explored all the rooms in the first level and was waiting around for the turns to cycle so I could creep my tower defense junk up to the exit, and level my dudes up a bit with all that extra food. The problem is that the turns seem to have stopped as soon as the last room was explored, and I'm stuck with finite resources, infinite aliens, and one hero effectively incapacitated because they're carrying the crystal. What am I doing wrong there?

I hesitate to say the game is broken before trying to find out if I'm missing something essential.

only see videos but the only time you get resources is when a door is opened, need good proper planning to make it to the exit, so you want to light up as many rooms as possible towards the exit to reduce the spawns, once you pickup the crystal its time to get out. You are not going to be able to deck out everyroom with turrets, gonna need smart use of the heros

Any tips for "smart use of the heroes"? Because mine inevitably get rolled the second I run out of food to heal them with.

outside of telling you to checkout a video or two not really, open doors wisely dont move both heroes at the same time, setup up a mini fort in multi section rooms. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdT-5Zc-Low I just watched a couple videos gauging if I would wanna buy it but from what your saying I think your approaching the game all wrong, you cannot go rambo and needless waste food to heal when that can be used for items and leveling up. I havent played it tho so Goodluck and Godspeed:Corpus:

Fight in rooms with defenses and healing is a big one. There is really no good reason to fight in the room where the monsters were spawned.

Upgrade your heroes (try not to use food for healing, level them instead if at all possible). Use their abilities.

And ultimately, you are probably going to have to make a run through a few unpowered (and undefended) rooms when you decide to move the crystal. I, generally, group all my heroes and go only as fast as the slowest in this case (this is usually the guy carrying the crystal). I don't try to kill the monsters, I just try to get everyone into the room.

Alright well I made it to level 3 before a full party wipe because I wasn't paying attention. Managed to get two more dudes.

Don't like watching videos because I find it more fun discovering the game systems myself. That's a big part of the fun of gaming, I think. Anyway, I was initially approaching it like a dungeon crawl. Which was wrong, apparently. Then I approached it like a TD, which was also wrong. It's actually a sort of ♥♥♥♥♥ hidden-information puzzle game in spite of being presented as a TD dungeon crawl.

Not really my kind of thing, as it turns out. Wish I hadn't bought it, and I doubt I'll be buying any more games from this developer, this being the third. I find the game mechanics extraordinarily counter-intuitive and frustrating, and wish you other folks luck with your puzzle-solving adventures.

Puzzle solving???

The game is obviously not for you. But that does not make it a puzzle game. (Not that there is anything inherently wrong with those)

Why would you be so offended by me calling it a puzzle game if there's nothing inherently wrong with those, as you said? Have fun, though, if this kind of semi-abstract action puzzle gameplay suits you.

Yes, it isn't for me. I wasn't a huge fan of roguelike RNG gambling ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to begin with, and DotE's ass-backwards controls and mechanisms just annoy the ♥♥♥♥ out of me on top of that. I'll probably take another peek once it's out of early access, but I don't expect them to move figurative mountains in two weeks or whenever the launch date is.

Not offended. But very puzzled (and not sure if I do or do not intend that pun).

I am not a fan of a lot of rogue likes, but this game clicked for me. Just as others completly failed to. I havea trash folder in my steam library for games I regret buying.

Official release will be on the 28th I think. So in a week. The basic gameplay won't change.
It always pays to revist a game at a later point and see if with another state of mind it perhaps becomes enjoyable (I suprisingly enjoyed Morrowing and Borderlands after giving them a second chance even though I initially hated them). It doesn't mean a game has to become any more your thing on that second try.

Wish you fun on your future gaming endeavours :)

Good idea; I should make one of those. And thanks, dude, to you as well.

I wouldn't call it a puzzle game, it's more of a 4x strategy game. The big things you should be doing from a strategic sense are increasing your FIDS (Food, Industry, Dust, and Science), so that you will have resources to invest. These can be used to get better defenses and upgraded characters. Since you say you don't like the other games from this developer, I suspect you don't like 4x strategy games.

That is an overly superficial analysis of DotE, I'm afraid. Yes, they crammed that FIDS system from their strategy games into it, even when it doesn't quite fit, but it is absolutely not a 4x strategy game. Nor would it be fair to say that this developer's other two titles are among the best examples of 4x strategy available.

I'm actually quite a big fan of strategy in general, but I happen to strongly dislike the way this developer designs their games. They have a lot of clever stuff in their games, and usually gorgeous art direction, but very poor balancing and some frankly bizarre, gimmicky, and dubiously useful design elements that I can only assume were put in because of their novelty. Don't let one guy's dislike rustle your jimmies, though; there is no need to be upset.
