Wiki item description says the purple version gives +4 wit and knowledge is good, I was wondering if the purple version gives a higher level knowledge? Like Josh's that goes up to level 3 giving 4 wit to everyone on floor.

If it does indeed give the level 3 version of knowledge is good, does it stack with Josh's if he is in your party? and what if Josh has it equipped, does it stack then?

All versions give level 1 "Knowledge is good". Pretty sure that there's no item that would give a level 2 skill.
Doesn't stack with Josh's skill. Same goes with giving "third eye" to Max - it will not level up his "Pilfer" skill further.
Best off giving it to other heroes - with right items it's possible to get Josh's wit stat past 30, which can be pretty handy for operating shops.

Thanks for the reply! The main thing is I wanted to be able to get Josh to atleast 31 wit for the shop
