Wes and the Drill Pod
So if you're pretty deep in the Drill Pod (say, floor 27 or so) where heroes don't often appear, does that prevent Wes's make-a-hero-or-artifact-appear-in-the-next-room power from working? Because I don't think it's working. Popped it, but no hero, no artifact, just a small empty room.

I've found heroes before as deep as floor 22 or so, I want to say... is the issue that heroes are just impossible at a certain depth? You'd think an artifact would pop up, if nothing else....

I'm seeing this happen as early as floor 8... multiple rooms in a row even.

[edit] Currently, on floor 8 in drill pod, 13 rooms in a row with no hero or artifact (or anything). Is there a global limit on how many heroes can be spawned by Urgent Call per floor? 6 heroes spawned correctly, and then it just stopped working completely. I know that I have had previous floors where every room, that wasn't an artifact or an elevator, had a hero spawn in it.

I've also never seen a floor with more than 3 artifacts, so perhaps that could be related? Heroes stopped spawning after the 3rd artifact spawned. Maybe a global cap of 3 artifacts prevents Urgent Call from triggering?

Or something is just seriously ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up with it... used it on the first 3 doors of floor 9, and nothing in any of them. wtf?

I'm pretty sure I had a run with 4 artifacts, no urgent call involved.

Hi,

I can't confirm it for sure but when I did I run with Wes on the escape pod, urgent call will only spawn a hero once and once you past that hero it will never respawn again

I'm on Floor 46 (too easy) with Wes so I could test this specifically. I don't think I have seen a new hero spawn from his ability since somewhere in the 20s. I've tried to make sure I use it at least twice a floor, though sometimes I forget.

Yup, I agree. I've been trying it 2 or 3 times per floor (although I'm not quite as deep as you), and Wes's ability doesn't seem to do anything, except maybe prevent monsters from showing up behind the door. You'd think it would at least give you the artifact, but it doesn't. Bug or exclusion, I wonder?

We need a dev response on this. It seems to be seriously bugged. If it's working as intended, then we especially need to know since every time it is used also prevents any other event (treasure, dust/cryo pods, etc.) from happening. If that's the case, then having Wes is actually detrimental.

It doesn't do that at all anymore. Removing that was the entire reason Urgent Call was redesigned.

I understand that - that's why I said "maybe." Every time I popped his ability, the room behind the next door had no monsters. Correlation doesn't imply causation, but that's the way it has worked for me so far. I freely admit at this point that I have no clue how Wes' ability is actually working in the game code.

Each hero can only appear once per game. Which means that once you've emptied the hero pool, the recruitable hero event no longer does anything.
Nyxon Jan 9, 2016 @ 12:58pm
That makes sense, but... shouldn't it make an artifact appear instead, then? Or maybe it should just be disabled at that point?

That... seems wrong. I have definitely encountered the same hero more than once in a single game multiple times. Hell, I've had heroes that have died/released show up in the very next room. Is that a recent change? So long as that stands, I am never using Wes again. Other than operate at level 1, he's total garbage now.

[edit] Yeah, that's totally wrong. In my current game, I recruited Gork on the 3rd floor, dismissed him on the 4th floor, and I'm staring at him again on the 9th floor. Are you perhaps only referring to heroes that have actually died? That would be totally understandable.

Bump. Ditched Wes on floor 3 (same time as Gork), and he's back on floor 10. We need some clarification on exactly how hero appearance is structured.
Dizamok Jan 12, 2016 @ 3:24am
Yes you're right, I forgot to mention that only heroes who die (even unrecruited ones) are permanently removed from the hero pool. Dismissing a hero does not count as a death.

Okay, that makes far more sense. Something still seems to be bugged with Urgent Call. Starting a new floor, with unrecruited heroes still alive, Urgent Call still produces empty rooms.
