Opening all the doors on a floor
So I was wondering, if I find the exit on a floor really quickly, and I don't explore like half of the rest of the floor, is that bad? I mean I don't know if I'm missing out on more loot or extra resources I could be stocking up on, but sometimes there is nothing worthwhile in that other half. So is it better to speedrun your way through the game if you can or is it better to check every room for more loot?

check as many rooms as you can early on then rush through the end floors.

You should always open as many doors as you can. You don't even need to find something special, the ressources you get alone are worth it.

BUT (<- and that is a big but):
The difficulty is to decide when to leave. If you need to heal or rebuild modules after waves its best to leave. If the waves don't cause you problems, continue exploring, even on the highest floors. You get hit by a bad EMP? Leave if you can.

Usually up to floor 7 or 8 opening every door isn't very difficult (except when you get a really bad layout or a bad combination of monsters).

After that, considering what to do should happen with every door. With bosses around "normal" waves can suddenly pose a threat.

Always take into account that your next door might just give you another unlit room and trigger the maximum amount of enemies. Can you deal with that?

So, general rule: Open as many doors as you can, but leave before it's to late.

All right so decide what to do based on what's happening. Thank you, I thought there was a general rule or a meta

Sometimes if i start finding that the waves are getting too much to sit and defend but I have a secure path to the exit, I'll just open a bunch of doors at once and just run for it. You wont have time to usually claim whatever treasures are inside those room especially if theres monsters but the industry, science, and food bonus can make it worth it.

Huzzah! (But Luke at that speed can we pull out in time)

Even better: Open a bunch of doors, pick up crystal, buy everything at a dust merchant ... then run. Double bonus for doing this with a solo hero.

... unless it's an Item. Then you do have time. Just run through those monsters on the way out, they can't stop you. Go ahead, you can always heal on the run. Is one more Item worth -5 food for a heal? Sure it is! What could possibly go wrong?

... says everybody, once each. Whee!

And even if you do get there, you'll find out that you can't open an item box as long as there are any monsters in the same room(even if you equip Aftershave/activate Crawler). The only things you can definitely do, after picking up the Crystal, are recruit Heroes(did it once, IIRC, after finding there was a Hero I wanted 1-2 rooms further out in the dark), buy from Merchants, and, AFAIK, research at Artifacts(only as long as there are still doors unopened).

I've actually had a lifelong problem with pushing my luck. I've unlocked all the non-secret characters and still haven't won yet. The time to jet, is just before it becomes blatantly obvious that you should have left.

I always open all the doors as long as I turn a profit. For example, if I am losing more industry through rebuilding modules or food through healing than I am earning, then I call it quit and leave. Also, sometimes the exit is too far away, and I try to open a few more doors in the hope I can find/produce dust. Keep in mind though, the more doors you opened, the bigger the waves will be.

At the very least, if possible, make sure you open all doors that branch off of the direct route from the Crystal to the Exit. You can't move power after the Crystal is picked up, so if you suddenly find out there are now five dark rooms about to dump monsters directly into your escape route, there's nothing you can do about it.

It might seem silly to mention, but of course, if it's Floor 12(i.e. the last floor in a non-Drill Pod run), then all you need to care about is making a safe path to the exit. Burn all the Industry you need to(within reason), to keep Silic Zoners at bay while you try to gain more Dust. Keep an eye out for Major Module slot rooms along the way, which can be powered by Emergency Generators if needed to cover your escape. Sell all your extra items to a Dust Merchant if you find one. There's no longer any reason to save anything for the next floor, because there are no more floors.

And build prisoner prods until you get the 50 modules Steam achievement :)
Use them to defend the elevator room for 1 full minute \o/

THe main reason you want to finish floors is to get as much research done pr floor as possible. So the more research crystals you have, providing you still have science to use on them, the more reason you have to stay.
D. Pede Feb 11, 2017 @ 6:28am
Don't listen to general rules. It doesn't depens on the floor you are on, more on room layout and monster combinations. Sometimes I leave floor 6 because the silic bulldozers delete all my production. Sometimes I take all floors on level 10 because my hero reached a powerspike and can handle all the waves. You stay as long as it is worth it. That means: Resources gathered -> Food spend healing + industry spend rebuilding.
Other things to take into considerations are many research cristals, obviously risk of dying if you slip up and if you have more than 4 items, it could be worth it to explore further until you find a merchant to sell your items you can't take with you.

Well thank you everyone for your tips, this should make my games smoother
