Wild Dogs, are the serious?
I started a Strong, Tough, Melee build and got killed by a pack of dogs. The dogs just kept hitting me over and over and I died so fast. I never died from dogs before, especially with this uber combat build. WTF!

Well, dogs can and will kill even the strongest, toughest dude if he gets caught by too many. They do have a vicious bite after all.

Could be just rng. But, just a hunch: did you stay longer close to Cryo? If you hang around that area for more than a few days, more and more dogs start sniffing you out, and where more dogs come together packs are formed. And packs will kill anyone on a bad moment. Especially someone potentially a bit tired/underdressed/underfed/underarmed.

I was hanging around Cryo. Trying to build up loot and so forth. But I was well equiped for dogs I think with a good broad spear. The problem is they sneak attacked me and got a hit off before I found them. It cascaded from there as I kept getting chewed on and there was half a dozen of them.

It gets worse though. I reloaded and got a Bad Mutha with a pistol sneak attacking me outside the Cryo day one, 3 severe wounds right out of the gate. Might as well mullgian again.

Yep, that's what I assumed. I'm a bit repetitive with this, but honestly: ANY other place on the map is better for building loot than cryo at the start of the game. No other place will ever have such a high concentration of dogs + Bad Muthas, especially if you stay on the move and don't leave your tracks/scent/stuff in the same place for a long time. Sleeping in a random field is better than cryo at early game (or almost always: fields are great if you wonna avoid getting jumped in your sleep.)

As for the Mutha, well.... that's rng. Can't help there. ;) But I still wouldn't quit myself. Giving it a few days to see if you can overcome a bad start just makes for some great neo stories imo.

Yeah I figured I needed to get out of there fast but exploring the back room gives the impression you can hold out there for a while before branching out. Didn't know an army of wild dogs were on the march.

Even the baddest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ don't stand long against an entire PACK of dogs, each feral and desprate. One? Yeah that ain't a problem, you can outright BRUTALIZE THE ♥♥♥♥ OUT OF THEM one at a time, however an entire PACK attacking you kinda leaves little doubt that you died, hell the moment they go for the goodies and rip those straight off, don't think you're putting up much resistance.

So, I'm new. What's the standard sequence of actions to undertake when starting combat with a feral dog that's 20 spaces away and I just wanna run? I tried too many time to get away, then I tackled the dog and kept kicking it while intermittently running, and then I pulled out my wrench but lost my tackle ability which I would have done to then kick it and get a better hit or something. I alt f4'd after realizing I couldn't tackle it, so I just wanna know what are the best options to undertake for the said scenario?

Wearing a Dogman fur coat lowers the morale of enemies. It also offers great insulation. I consider it one of the best items in the game, next to the Broad Spear.

You can get one at the very start of the game using the Dogman corpse (if you killed it), a glass shard, and the Trapping skill. You can only get the coat if you have the trapping skill.

Wild dogs will actually flee on sight. Packs of wild dogs will flee significantly quicker than normal (if you harm them or just stand back long enough).

Meanwhile, Bad Muthas fear nothing.
