I'm trying to finish the first mission and it says you should be able to select inspected tiles and click the build option but when I left or right click on a tile, either nothing happens or is set a beacon for the workers to go there gather resources.

The title says it all. started extermination and within the first minute there was a loud alarm blaring or creature roaring and the next thing i know the enemy scab was on top of my base and covered my whole screen. Is this normal?
