SHIFT.exe crashes on startup

Hi,
if I try to start NFS Shift directly from the SteamApps folder it crashes on startup and only a message box with "Steam Error - Application load error 5:0000065434" appears. If I run the game directly from the Steam library it works fine. But I need to start the shift.exe due some modding issues.
Does someone knows a solution for this problem?

I have the same problem. Game crashes after the intro video.
When I asked Google about this problem I only found these couple topics in this steam forum, that had no answers.
I updated everything that I could possibly updated. Reinstalled the game. Messed around with graphicsconfig file. Nothing helped.

No solution - just another sorry tale! Loads up intro video and either crashes at end or when I press start on 360 joypad. Tried troubleshooting options but nothing works and eventually Windows 8 declares it incompatible. Latest nvidia beta drivers tried as well but no luck.

So I continued to experiment with random fixes I found trough Google and it eventually led to total chaos in my PC. Do to that chaos Dark Souls stoped working and since that's unacceptable I just formatted my boot drive and reinstalld Windows to clean all the mess up... and now Shift works... Don't know what on my hard drive made Shift crash, but deleting everything helped.

Do you have any idea? Mine crashes after the video at the start of the campaign! :(
I was looking forward to it! My brother's copy has been working all this time so I'll see if I can help you guys out! :D

Don't know what exactly caused the crash.
I played around with the game a bit, then installed couple updates for windows, a custom windows theme and few small apps... aaaaand the game crashes again. I've had enough of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I'm deleting the game. I knew buying this was a mistake.
