Need for Speed: SHIFT

Need for Speed: SHIFT

Shift always restarts with default settings , Cant change graphics
This is just stupid ... I enter the game , change the settings .
Then the game says that i have to restart .
And when it restarts the settings are default ...
This is a real problem and i want my money back .
I will not play the game like this ... is freaking awful

Yeah. Did you find a fix?
MEAN MACHINE Mar 21, 2014 @ 5:30pm
No i didn´t .
Someone was saying that after the first race you could change it .
But it´s a lie .
Done a couple of races already , and could never change it .
Everytime it restarts settings are the same .
Real poor graphics for me ... I refuse to play a game like this .
Steam does not have a solution , neither they traied to find one .
They didn´t reply to my complain yet .

I think i figured it out ... Sort off ...
What kind of Graphic card are you running ???
I´m using Nvidia , these cards have an option on the driver itself ,
to determine the frame rate and vsync .
So what i did was :
Went to Nvidia control panel , in the section " Manage 3D Options "
and selected the NFS Shift game .
Then , i turned vsync off and the frame rate to the max .
Now , and this is the thing ,
i entered the game and choose the highest graphics settings but at 120Hz .
If you try to chose any of the 144Hz resolution options ,
when you restart the game , it will revert to normal settings .
Don´t forget to also turn off vsync in the game .
After all the changes have been made and before restarting the game ,
you must go down the game menu and save it .
I use MSI Afterburner , and besides all the cool stuff it can do ,
it also gives me a real time OSD with FPS information an latency ,
I was able the confirm that the frame rate was completly free and didn´t cap at 120 Hz .

I don´t know how to this stuff works with AMD cards but i´m sure it won´t be much diferent.
Hope it works for you ... ;)

Wait there is a save option in the menus? Also use GTX780 ti superclocked.

Great , you should be able do the exact same thing .
To find the save , just search your game menu in options and you´ll find it .
Okay so it worked for me. Setup the settings and save. PLay one race then save again. Close game and open. Settings saved.

Great ... Also try not to use vsync when you play .
Most of the time , only adds latency and with this type of monitors you won´t need it so much as with 60Hz ones .
;)

This game absolutely REFUSES to save my graphics settings. I've tried several different combinations of changing the settings, saving, restarting, changing the settings again, saving, playing a race, quitting, restarting, changing the settings again... it doesn't matter.

I've even tried deleting my entire save folder, letting it re-generate, and also taking the graphics settings config XML, and setting it to "Read Only". It doesn't matter though. This god-forsaken game absolutely refuses to let me use the settings I want. What a dumpster fire.

Nevermind, I'm dumb. I missed the part of your comment where you said that the 144Hz options are completely broken.

I set the graphics settings the way I wanted them, but with 120Hz instead of 144Hz (and Vsync turned off). Did a manual save, did a race, did another manual save, and then rebooted the game. Finally, the game is fixed (sheesh).

I can also confirm that, despite selecting 120Hz in the options, the framerate appears to be truly uncapped. Thanks so much for reporting this fix.

Yup, 144hz is broken. 120 works fine. In my case even "quick" sync in nvidia options works.
