Need for Speed: SHIFT

Need for Speed: SHIFT

Car handling question.
Shift 1 and 2, to an extent, for my taste has very bad car handling. Whenever I turn into a corner, the backend wants to come out and the car slides. It seems like the cars have no grip at all.

Im not that far into the game. Is this just with cars you start with that are not supposed to be very good or is this just how the game plays?

So far, the Need for Speed games I have tried, Most Wanted, Hot Pursuit and Rivals drive like this.

My question is other than changing the traction control and other settings, is there a mod that anyone knows of that makes the cars slide around less?

Turn off brake assist and try adjusting the brake balance. Most (except a few T4+) have too much front brake pressure for my taste, more so after you get a few performance upgrades to each car.
Go into advanced tuning and adjust the brake balance to be less front-heavy.
Also: SLOW DOWN A BIT before turning in.

Most of the regular cars, like the whole t1 and t2 set of cars are awful for racing, and some are just outstandingly bad when pushed to the limit in their default tuning.
Once you get to t3 the defaults are a lot better and t4 and above are pretty decent in default settings.
Basically all the cars start in 'street' setup (aka regular traffic driving) and it is up to you to tune them for more agressive and highspeed driving. Unfortunately a lot of the tuning, particularly the detailed tuning which is what you really want, is locked behind several upgrades that you have to get, car by car.

btw: there is also something else to consider. If you are driving with a controller, and have the handbrake on thumbstick, you might inadvertently be triggering that, which will definitely spin you out very easily. In that case, try increasing the deadzone in the controller setup and be extra aware that you do not pull that brake by mistake.

Thanks for the response. I do have brake assist off, I have all assists off. And I do play with a 360 controller but I dont have the brake set to the thumbstick, I have it set to my left trigger. I play a lot of racing games like The F1 games and the GRID series. It just seems like the cars in Need for Speed games have odd handling. Maybe its just Im used to The F1 games and GRID games but they seem to be more realistic when going around a corner. But I will continue playing this game and upgrade the cars, hopefully the cars get a liitle grip rather than the back end of the car sliding on almost every corner.

Thanks for the response, have a good day!

If you have traction control set to off you need super pedal control. I prefer the 'low' setting for traction control in shift.
Full traction is only needed for a few cars that behave badly, like mclaren F1 which has terrible control compared to the other tier4/supercars, and some of the tier 2 japanese RWD cars which on the other hand are good for drifting - they corner poorly under pressure and like to spin out.
Unfortunately traction can not be set car by car, it is buried in settings and applies to all.

I will try that. Once again, thanks for the help. Have a good day.

If you are having trouble with handling use the AWD cars. Good for beginners. Also turn on the drive line assist. It will teach you how to control your speed approaching corneres in all cars. Once you learn the car and track you can you can push the limits. Once confident remove it and use instinct, signs and landmarks to race.
