How To Mod BF2... Help!

Hello internets! I am a complete and utter n00b that has no idea how to install BF2 mods, any advice? again, i appologize for being such a n00b, but BF2 can be so good with mods...

which one? 0.97 or 0.6?

0.97, its newer. I also reccomend Forgotten Hope 2. Keep in mind a lot of mods have a .exe installer instead of a traditional type where you have to move the mod folder.

okay. i might have to hold out on all of the 6.8 gb project reality mod. thats a little excessive for a mod.

AIX 1 and 2 are great mods.
I guess you've found the mods folder in BF2's folder. Each mod will create a folder in it. In each of the mod folders will be a "levels" folder. Thats where you will extract/ install any mappacks for that specific mod.
AIX1 has a bad response when trying to use the personal mortars so refrain from mounting the personal mortar.
AIX2 has a bad reaction to a gunner getting into your chopper. Fly it alone. I think bots don't apply. Try it! :)

Never had that problem with AIX2.0. Might have been a botched install that could be corrected by deleting and reinstalling the mod.

Mortar issue was fixed with their final patch they released in the official AIX forums.

If you want an expanded experience with original BF2 with bots (for Singleplayer or Co-operative Lan play) you would want BFall64 mod.

Did this on an old machine, but this doesn't seem to work on steam. Puredeath998 weapons mod loads no problem, but it crashes every time I try new maps. Any thoughts?
