I play BF2 on Win8 64bit just fine, i think you need to move BF2 out of Program Files (x86).
On steam, you'll have to unistall and reinstall in a new location.

Try this:

Try Running as administrator

Try deleting video.con @ mydocuments/bf2/profile/defult

Try running BF2 directly from the .exe, not steam

go to where the game exe is installed usually c/program files (x86)/steam/steam apps/common/battlefield 2/ and right click on bf2.exe and select properties, then left click compatability tab and tick the box that says run this program in compatability mode for and select in the dropdown below it windows xp service pack 3.Left click apply then click ok.All done it should now work fine or better atleast.Hope that helps.See you on the battlefield soldier.

well maybe how about creating a sandbox in your win8 64 desktop and install it in a virtual environment? never tried something such like this but its just an idea.
like virtual box? it's not workin either... virtual windows or other os will use emulated graphics :S

lol... fixed it... http://steamcommunity.com/app/24860/discussions/0/846959179151559848/

replaced hdmi with RGB cable and game started :D

Maybe you could try download a new RendDX9.dll and RendDX9x2.dll from the internet. Just google it to find them.

Edit: lol nice solution. I find this odd, I was able to play BF2 with a hdmi connected to a monitor only.
