You can still play with out internet! Just single player though. There's mods out there that make this game awesome! For single player I play AIX 2, It's a mod that is for single player. The maps are huge there are a bunch of them! They all are 64 player. You get more jets heli's tanks etc you name it. There are ww2 mods that kickbutt. But the best one of them all is called Project reality and you can still play it ONLINE. The ww2 is foregotten hope 2 but I'm not sure about online play. It was pretty dead for awhile anyway's. But you can still play single player. If you need any help! Just message me. Or just post. I am a big Battlefield 2 fan. And a nice guy.

The game is pretty lifeless without multiplayer, and becomes a bit boring especially with smaller maps sizes that single player restricts you to unless you use mods.

16 players max in single player, and you are limited in the map sizes aswell which ends up meaning you wont be able to use planes etc for majority if not all the maps in single players unless you use mods to do so.

Would I be able to get around this by creating a LAN multiplayer and adding AI? I have heard that there is one mode that you can have AI in multiplayer.

Yeah under the multiplayer tab you can create a local game and set the game type to coop to add up to 48 bots and change their difficulty etc. You're still lmited to the 16 player maps, but 48 bots in the 16 player maps make it interesting.

Like some of the others said though, the mods are what make this game stand out. I definitely recommend Forgotten Hope 2, and Alpha Project. AP made it to where you can customize the attachments on your weapons. They also changed all the sounds and textures to make it much better.

The singleplayer and cooperative play of BF2 is the best of any of the BF games, largely thanks to the modding community and all it's done (and is still doing). Like the guy above me stated you can download mods and open up every bit of the game that isn't available in singleplayer "out of the box."

If Singleplayer is your thing (or Cooperative play via LAN), visit this site (mainly it's FORUMS)...

www.battlefieldsingleplayer.com

Tons of maps, skins, weapons, and tutorials available at battlefieldsingleplayer's forums for modding this classic game and getting tons of mileage out of it. I personally have played 99% of this game offline in singleplayer and coop via LAN with friends. Why? Because when I got it I didn't have online capable internet, now that I do I play the newer games online...

BUT I *still* play BF2 offline a ton because of all the mods (which you can't use online unless everyone else has the files).
