how do you feed the dwarves

i have food in my storage and i click a dwarf and press feed and yet he does not go to feed himself... any suggestion is to why?

Build a table, put food on the table.

i tried dragging it it doesnt work

drag food to quickbar from crafting menu
click on food in quickbar
click on table

You also need multiple tables with different food on each, dwarves get tired of eating the same type of food.

Is there a way to farm? Grow your own food?

wheat
select grain, place it in a dirt tile
wait for it to rain or select water & place it on top of where you planted the wheat
it's ready when it's no longer green

grains you can find while minning... idk though if you eat the grain raw or you eventually make bread with it though... havnt gotten that far

I know this is an old thread but I'm having trouble. How do I place a table? Do I need the totem and home built first? Every time I try to place the table it says I can't build it in that location.

4 year necro, nice, build a table through crafting first, then place it down by putting it in your hotbar first,then left click it from your hotbar onto a surface in the world, after doing this, place food in hotbar, then left lcick from hotbar onto the table

EDIT: no a shelter is not required to place a table

Yet another 4 years later and 430 hours of playing this game and I think I've stumbled onto a bug. 15 minutes into a new sandbox game I can't place food (first time this playthrough) on any table. With each update this game gets worse and worse and the dwarves dumber.
