How to build a shelter?
So Ive built everything I need to get a shelter going, the problem is tho that the totem has disappeared from my craft menu, and before that happened it didn't show me what I needed to craft it... Is the function to make a shelter in the game yet? Cheers.

Just trying to help...I usually never double post: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=206405440

This is a small functional house. I was planning on replacing the hatches on the left and right sides as soon as I unlock the Wood Doors tech.

I'm having the same issues as Fox. It seems kind of silly to just assume that he is doing something wrong with the house when the game is still not completely finished. It's buggy right now and it makes it difficult to play. Still a fun game

I just don't know how to do those side walls, they just don't appear in the Tech Three.

select the wood wall in your hotbar and click to build on top of the wall you already placed like you would if you were placing the first wall... 1 wood wall does both front and back walls... it's a little weird at first but it makes sense. Also, if you don't like the results of the wall, select the wall in your hotbar and click on the wall again and it'll change without costing more wood or anything.

It seems like there's a bug involving the Totem which will not regnognize a house as being fully built.
However, the fix is simple for this bug: restart the game (quit game completly to desktop and reload it).

Thank you! This fixed my problem!

Last game I ended up abandoning a huge 10 bed hotel because of this bug only to build a new one from scratch >.<

If this doesn't help, then your house is faulty (maybe it lacks background tiles, or is lacking a door etc...).

The dwarves running like cowards is a consequence of your housing problem: they are wounded badly, and need a fully built house to be able to use the beds to heal themselves.

You can have as many beds as you want in one shelter.

Red stars (or lack of stars) means the house is not fully built, or see the above bug I mentioned.
Yellow stars means your house is functional and everything is alright.

Thanks! I had all full built, yellow stars and all, I just had to restart the game. Ty

This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid... I had the shelter fully built, had stars circling around it and everything and they still would not go to bed (tried leaf bed and wooden beds). And since they refuse to stop running away and just die so others can spawn in and take their place, the hordes come in and destroy everything on me...

What a stupid game this is. I might try again for a third time later on, but right now I'm completely irritated by this terrible game design and need a break.

I find the whole selter needing to be cmplete before you can have your dwarfs sleeping a bit tough. Having a bed should be enough. Perhaps if the full shelter is built then the sleeping has twice the effect, something like that.
Usually less it bugs its not that big of a challenge, you just need a inclosed space either completely inaccessible or with a door or Hatch and then the totem on a wall inside, voila a shelter been made.

Easiest way campaign wise is probably to dig down into the ground make a ladder down and a hatch on top and plant beds down there and put up a totem. Most efficient would of cause be to have the totem near the stockpile as it drive away the ghost from throwing the tools around everywhere.

Does anyone know if stone (not brick walls) is more difficult to break through than wooden walls?
ehyder 30 Thg04, 2014 @ 11:52am
If you look at the information on the crafting page the durability for wood is 3, and the durability for stone is 9. Stone is more difficult to break through. Brick is a bit better than stone at a durability of 12.
