Maybe in the final version the developer will put tech-tree caps on each world and allow your dwarves and research to carry over.. some sort of story line and bosses to defeat would be a nice touch.
Great game.. addictive gameplay, easy to lose track of time!
You can play the tech-tree through to the end in campaign or custom scenario.
Just at this time the campaign has no function.. unless you want to consider building the portal as "victory" (I may have spaced out a little during the portal effect cut scene, lol).
Before someone feels the need to point this out, yes I know the game isn't finished. Just an observation, not a complaint.
Other then that there seems to be no real end game at all , and the game seems to be unplayable to me after about 15-20 hours on a single world as the undead portals start lasting more then 1 day and spawn about 100 undead with me only having 10 dworfs by that time.
Yeah... the only think keeping me going is I've yet to complete the tech tree.
Well let's hope they increase the number of dwarves and add an option in custom scenario to customize your own waves of enemies.
Besides, there are many tricks to provide hordes to submerge you.
Still they are silly, just build one or two hatches near your house and they will camp them untill they destroy them, they can separate groups so it's easier to crunch them...
Yetis are a great menace ! Whatabout digging a 2 spaces hole ? Then the Yetis spend the whole game in the hole...if you don't decide to crush them.
My conclusion is that when you learn the basics : build and underground shelter, a hatch and 2 beds as early as possible...and no more trouble, no need to build a "portal base" with no exits.
Then you learn to use that famous OP spell...with portal, you don't really need lodgers or hunters. Just open a portal where there is a lot of wood/berries and animals and bang !
In 2 minutes you get loads of resources. Open another portal a little away then back again...
Same with mines : you can get loads of ore in some minutes. just beware of the ants :)
Finally, i find that the custom mode is far harder than the campain games. On some occasions, i could not find any bed recipe or hatches for hours...makes it different :p
Nota : in many games (i'm now 2nd stage in both campain and custom) i only built once a tesla tower. We can manage without them :)
I've put about 16 hours into my snow world and I just recently put up my first few tesla towers (does anyone know how to upgrade them?) just because I want to be able to keep using my dwarves for resource collection and because they are a bit retarded and ended up getting 1 or 2 killed every invasion (after 16 hours invasions are kind of intense). I ended up with triple walls that my dwarves can shoot at the skeletons while they are bashing them in so I have quite a few archers.
The top layer of dirt (muddy brown soil)[dl.dropboxusercontent.com] has a 5% chance per block to give you a root.
The second layer of dirt (yellow soil)[dl.dropboxusercontent.com] has a 30% chance per block to give you sand.
The third layer of dirt (brown rocks)[dl.dropboxusercontent.com] has a 25% chance per block to give you coal and a 15% chance per block to give you stone (and you can get dirt, coal, and stone all at once from one block).
The fourth layer of dirt (dark brown rocks)[dl.dropboxusercontent.com] has a 25% chance per block to give you iron.
The fifth layer of dirt (red soil)[dl.dropboxusercontent.com] has a 2½% chance per block to give you gold and 2% chance per block to give you mithril.
Make sure you dig up a mix of dirt in the lower half of the map, which is where layers 3-5 are.
I am progressing through the craft tree in a custom game...
