Much easier to farm XP (but also boring in the end) is planting wheat underground everywhere, wait a little. Then thresh the harvest to grains, don't bother if you come over 999 grains - continue plant, harvest, thresh - that stuff is available endless for no much effort - seems not to need water if planted underground - and you simply have to click-click-click and not to wait for such ant to come into your reach.
The above should be a reason to have such hive dropping some real valuable reward as food that does not need coal for preparation: some honeycombs? Then have a centrifuge-station to get ant-honey?
Craft as much fire-arrows at possible- or cook a lot of some dish.

ive got better things to spend my actual time on than gaining exp. i prefer to do that automatically.
oh and if you can manage to find a nest right next door to your settlement thats real fast exp.
