growing wheat and farming

Can I have walls and still grow wheat? And can you put walls behind a farm and have it still work properly? I just wanna keep the mummies from trying to get into my house, since I have both these things underground.

I heard that wheat will no longer grow underground. That said, I think you might be able to make a floor of dirt in your above ground house and plant wheat there.

Wheat still grows underground, no problem. But if your house is infested with rats, they will destroy the crops.

Well I know I can grow it underground, as I am right now. I just am not sure if it'll still grow if I put walls behind it. Right now it's at the level where behind it air, not that underground rock whatever stuff, if that makes sense.

It always grew for me with walls.
