Edit: and yes, he is from the grotto DLC
Just a caution, it is kind of easy for this guy to die, and he will follow the dwarves to heal them. I usually try to restrict his movements a bit with blocks and doors (does not always work) to keep him and my dwarves healthy.
Regarding the other DLC ... I assume I have this one as well (I guess it came with Bosses and Mopnsters) ... but it only marks those ores which are somewhat close to already uncovered regions of the map (i.e. rservoirs that aren't all too wide into the dark spots of the map)
In contrast to this, the Elf seems to preferably show me ore resources that aren't marked already. So (at least for this phase opf the game, where I have unconvered only a small part of the underground map ... and therefore there are lots of dark patches without ore markings) for me it is quite useful (already showed me 3 previously unmarked iron or reservoires, 1 silver and 1 gold)

Anyone knows anything about this?
It reminds me of a huge flying version of the mites, so am I right to assume that it is not friendly?
Edit: it should be available for view now in your bestiary?
Unfortunately No ---
neither is the Elven witch (or how the elf in he grotto is called) available in my Bestiary.
I can only assume that there is somethign buggy with the german version of the Bestiary
